A new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) for Gynaecology will soon open at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham. We therefore have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant - Receptionist to take on a cross-site role, based at both Worthing Hospital on the Gynaecology Day and Ambulatory Units and at the CDC.

As a Healthcare Assistant-Receptionist in Gynaecology you will support the Nursing and Clinical teams to deliver high quality care to women on the Gynaecology Day Unit (same day emergency care), Early Pregnancy, Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Two Week Rule (Rapid Access), Uro-Gynaecology and General Gynaecology clinics. This will be through a mixture of clinical and reception shifts.

This is an exciting opportunity as we continue to embrace new developments and opportunities within Women’s Health. You will be supported to develop the skills and competencies necessary for this role.

This will be a part-time post working, advertised as 24hrs but with scope for negotiation. There will be a varied shift pattern, Monday-Friday, consisting of Earlies, Lates and Long-Days (9.5hrs or 12hrs).

To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department.

To work in a team with qualified nurses, medical, healthcare professionals and other support staff.

To report all incidents/accidents involving patients and staff to the qualified nurse and to assist in any enquiries.

To understand role and participate in control of infection.

To participate in quality assurance programmes as require.

Taking an recording of temperature, pulse and respirations on instruction from the qualified nurse.

Recording the results appropriately and reporting back.

Collecting and disposing of body waste. Testing urine and stool specimens and recording results and appropriately reporting any abnormalities to the nurse in charge.

Under the supervision of a qualified nurse, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety.

Carry out appropriate patient observations and procedures under supervision and with relevant training.

On arrival, check-patients in using the patient information system and complete other reception duties including booking of appointments when appropriate, completing clinic outcomes and supporting day-to-day operational running of the department.

Service Delivery and Improvement

To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

To ensure that all patients are received and processed efficiently into clinics in a courteous and efficient manner.

To arrange for the expedition of very urgent patients requiring outpatient appointments

To book outpatient follow up appointments when required within the timescales required by the clinician ensuring that the Clinic capacity is strictly adhered to.

To co-ordinate the input of demographic, personal and scheduling details of patients hospital attendances and outcomes using the patient information system (SEMA) to provide the Trust with an up to date record of patient activity and information.
