The Assistant Head of Domestics is responsible for working with the Housekeeping management team to ensure the highest standard of cleanliness are maintained as well as deputising for the Head of Domestics when required.

As Assistant Head of Domestics, the post holder will be encouraged to voice their ideas to enhance and / or improve processes and procedures that could bring efficiencies to the in-house cleaning services.

The post holder is responsible for working with the Head of Domestics to ensure all aspects of the cleaning service are compliant with statutory requirements; working closely with the other facilities staff and managers to achieve standardisation of Housekeeping working practices, protocols and procedures.

The post holder will be responsible for the on-going operational organisation and service delivery of a range of Soft FM services focusing on Housekeeping & Environmental Cleanliness. Ensuring a quality Soft FM service is delivered to all departments within the hospital and that standards are in line with agreed specifications and Service Level Agreements.

The Housekeeping Service is a 24 hour, 7-day a week service and, as such, the post-holder is expected to work with the Deputy Domestic Manager and Senior Domestic Supervisors to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place in order that the service is effectively provided at all times. This may mean attending site at any time over a 24 hour period for the purposes of briefing, training and generally supporting the supervision and management of staff out-of-hours when required.

The Assistant Head of Domestics is a senior member of the Facilities team and, at the discretion of the Head of Domestics will be required to undertake projects, weekend and out of hours work together with the other duties in addition to main sphere of responsibility.

1. To actively assist the Head of Domestics in the delivery and monitoring of Housekeeping and Cleaning services.
2. To ensure standards are delivered through the effective management of resources, sound financial practice and the correct processes of governance and risk management.
3. To deliver and maintain the highest standards against all legislative and best practice requirements such as PLACE (Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment) scores, the National Standards of Cleanliness for the NHS, CQC, etc.
4. Contribute to service development, delivery and business planning with the Soft FM Services Senior Management Team.
5. Identify and contribute to cost improvement (CIP) processes for the services and the wider benefit of the Trust.
6. Responsible for and to carry out risk assessments throughout the services.
7. To assist in the operation of the performance monitoring systems to ensure the highest possible standards are maintained at all times across the range of services.
8. To ensure that adequate maintenance of all key machinery and equipment required for the services is delivered to the highest possible standards on a regular planned basis that appropriate action is taken to rectify and reports maintained.
9. To ensure compliance with all current statutory regulations and complete compliance documentation to meet the requirement of departmental and/or Trust policies and procedures.
10. To work with Deputy Domestic Manager and Senior Domestic Supervisors to ensure that sickness absence is managed in an effective and timely manner in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures.
