The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) is an independent national service. They make fair and final decisions on complaints about the NHS in England, UK Government departments and some other public organisations.

**Job description**:
Working within our growing Information Rights Team, the Information Access Officer is principally responsible for providing support to information rights and the wider PHSO team to ensure compliance with data protection laws.

The Information Access Officer will be responsible for:

- Providing administrative support for the core functions of the information rights team.
- Recording new requests made under Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation.
- Monitor incoming requests and reports made to information assurance regarding security incidents and information breaches, record on internal management systems.
- Dealing with and responding to requests made under The Freedom of Information Act plus less complex Subject Access and rights requests under GDPR such as Objections to publication.
- Maintaining the Freedom of Information disclosure log.
- Offer advice regarding security incidents and data breaches
- Championing transparency and information rights.
- Being proactive and look for new ways of working to ensure that PHSO keeps pace with new legislative and technological development.

**Person specification**:

- Previous experience of working in a customer focused environment demonstrating empathy.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet statutory deadlines when handling information requests.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills to ensure information is obtained from internal partners to satisfy Freedom of Information requests and formulate responses to those requests.
