Duties will be divided between the paediatric ward (including seeing acute admissions on Children’s assessment unit) and the level 2 neonatal unit.
Whilst the post available does not form part of the formal training programme, we endeavour to offer post holders the same training and educational opportunities as colleagues in training, including paid study leave. You will be provided with clinical and educational supervision, to enable your personal and portfolio development. There is an active Postgraduate Medical Education Centre on both sites, as part of a dynamic Education and Training directorate, which is developing multi-professional training.
You will be responsible, with the support of Senior Trainees, for the day-to-day care of all medical admissions to the children’s ward, and the provision of shared care for all surgical, orthopaedic and dental patients admitted to the paediatric ward.
Other responsibilities include the routine examination of normal new born babies in the maternity ward, resuscitation of the new born in the delivery suites and the care of patients on the neonatal unit.
The rota also includes out-patient sessions where new patients are seen with Paediatric Consultants.
The department runs a consultant of the week system and the successful post holders will be well supported at all times. Although this post is not a formal training post the post holder will be exposed to the same educational opportunities and supervision as the other junior doctors.
We operate a full shift system and the post holders will work a combination of normal working days, long days and night shifts including weekend work.
