The council offers a strong level of support to vulnerable groups and those who need additional support, which has also increased significantly as a result of the pandemic. Like most places, the average age of our population is rising as more people are living longer, so we are working closely with residents to help them maintain their independence and further improve the cost effectiveness of our service to meet the ongoing rise in demand.

Kingston is home to people from diverse and interesting cultures and backgrounds, which helps to create the rich sense of community shared across the borough. In particular, Kingston has a large Sri Lankan Tamil community and is home to more people from Korea than any other part of the UK.

**About the Role** 1

The purpose of this role of Climate Action Officer, specialising in energy strategy and projects, is to shape and deliver against the Council's commitment to reduce the carbon emissions from the energy generated, purchased and used in the borough. The priority within this is to support our key partners and residents to reduce energy use in homes and reliance on fossil fuels, in turn providing additional local benefits through reduced energy bills and improved health. This will be done by delivering a number of energy projects already in train, such as work with the GLA to develop a Local Area Energy Plan and managing suppliers delivering energy advice and interventions in the borough as well as identifying and developing new initiatives.

You will work in the climate action team with other dedicated professionals to deliver against the wider ambitions in the Climate Action Plan. The core team (of five) has a strong "can do" approach and work together in a positive way to support each other whether working remotely, in the office or out and about in the borough. You will also work closely with a range of specialists in services across the organisation and external stakeholders.
