**Job Title: Visitor Assistant**

**Hours**: Part Time Contract (15 hours per week/ 3 days a week
- 9:30-1430)

**Salary**: £ minimum wage per hour

**Responsible to**:Front of House Manager & Lead Visitor Assistant

**Purpose of the Post**

As an integral member of the Bowes Museum Front of House Team, you will be instrumental in creating a warm welcome for our visitors and help in the day-to-day running of the museum and grounds. You will be responsible for dealing with all types of visitor admissions and enquiries and be on hand to answer questions about the Collection and Exhibitions to enhance the visitor experience.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

1. To welcome visitors, schools and other groups visiting the museum and actively engage with our visitors throughout their time at the museum, providing an enjoyable experience with information on the collection and exhibitions.

2. Provide our visitors with Spotlight Tours, offering short talks on objects or themes within the museum.

3. To handle the sale of museum admission tickets, upselling Memberships, Gift Aid, event tickets and merchandise via the Spektrix ticketing system.

4. To be responsible for the receipt of admission payments via credit/debit card/cash, either face-to-face or over the telephone, with daily reconciliation.

5. To provide general reception duties, including handling visitor enquiries, answering the telephones and managing complaints.

6. To be able to record information accurately, specifically in relation to visitor numbers.

7. To be proficient in the use of all Microsoft packages, including Outlook, Word and Excel.

8. To deal with incoming and outgoing post as required.

9. Daily routine cleaning of all museum areas, including washrooms, facilities and galleries, and basic upkeep in the grounds.

10. To carry out supporting works for other departments under the direction of museum staff or line management.

11. To carry out some basic maintenance, e.g. the replacement of light bulbs.

12. To assist in administering security arrangements throughout the museum and the grounds by patrolling and monitoring the visitors, ensuring that everything is in order and reporting any security concerns regarding signs of damage or suspicious behaviour.

13. To carry out locking and unlocking procedures and have a good working knowledge of the security system and emergency procedures.

14. Supervision of contractors and visitors in non-public areas.

15. To uphold Health and Safety regulations in the workplace.

16. Porterage - the erection, dismantling and moving of equipment and deliveries as required, helping in the movement of objects under the guidance of museum staff or line management.

17. To undergo any training required to carry out any of the roles described in this job description competently and safely.

18. To carry out other related tasks commensurate with the position as requested by line management eg. admin support tasks.

19. Due to the rural location of the museum, it is important that employees are able to travel independently to work in order to fulfil contractual obligations.

At least two years of working with the public in a face-to-face customer service environment

Good verbal communication skills

Awareness of and the ability to deliver excellent standards of customer care

Ability to work under pressure and to manage time effectively

Able to work flexibly and as part of a team

Willingness to undertake training as and when required

The ability to work with mínimal supervision, using initiative and making decisions

Able to maintain accurate records and follow basic financial procedures

The ability to work weekends and Bank Holidays as part of a rota, occasional early morning and evening work is required

Knowledge of Local Area

Knowledge of the Bowes Museum collection
