Our client are an industry leading manufacturing business currently looking to recruit an experienced Buyer to join their team.
**Overall Purpose**:
- Sourcing cost down opportunities on current and new product introductions, identifying and implementing improvements in the way inventory is managed and sourced within the business.
- To drive the development of a procurement process resulting in the reduction of both cost of raw materials and components as well as inventory levels.
**Key Duties**:
- Ensure an active system for dual sourcing of suppliers and components, including looking at Far East countries.
- To achieve lowest possible cost of materials and components at a defined quality level.
- Negotiation of prices with suppliers for new and current components, products or services, including capital equipment.
- Raise specifications for new/current components with New Product Design.
- Continual review of rationalisation of component range and negotiation with suppliers of best price or price reduction based on defined criteria.
- Ensure new product launches are supported, and help source new components when needed.
- To project lead and coordinate company resources (New Product Development, QA, and Production) in the selection of new suppliers/components.
- Take the lead in working through return to supplier issues with QA and supplier.
- Supplier visits and attendance of exhibitions when required
- Implementation of a vendor rating program.
- At all times make sure communication is kept with rest of Logistics Team.
- Understand and help in any day to day tasks, and improve where possible the day to day buying function with the aim to reduce stock levels.
- In conjunction with other departments to be active in continuous improvement.
- Ensure that all paperwork is maintained in an orderly and efficient manner as required by current Company Policy.
- Ensure that all required documentation is maintained to Quality Assurance guidelines and all new suppliers are QA approved prior to use.
- Any other such occasional tasks for which the job holder is deemed to be qualified.
**Key Skills & Experience Required**:
- The job holder will have an excellent standard of education and also be MCIPS qualified.
- Strong negotiating skills and a strong communicator is essential.
- The ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications and to have some knowledge of materials desirable.
- Previous inventory management, MRP knowledge and organisational skills are a plus.
- The job holder must have strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word Excel PowerPoint etc) to analyse data. Training in the company systems will be given.
- Self reliance with the ability to work with the minimum of supervision on his/her own initiative.
- Being patient, persuasive/negotiator, calm and effective under pressure, assertive and decisive whilst being goal and results driven are also a must.
- Strategically develop new supply sources as necessary insuring quality requirements and product specifications are met.
- Excellent inventory and supply management skills.
- As the job entails a great deal of interaction with outside suppliers and other departments within the company organisation, it is essential that the job holder has excellent interpersonal skills, being able to maintain good constructive relationships whilstat the same time ensuring that the job gets done.
- Able to identify improvements and manage their introduction with suppliers.
- It is essential that the job holder exhibits a very high degree of conscientiousness and accuracy in all tasks or duties.
- Must hold a full driving licence as Supplier visits will be part of the job.
**The Package**:
- £35,000 per annum.
