**2.** **Scope and purpose of the role**
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join The Security Institute at an important phase of its growth and development.
The Policy and Public Affairs Officer is a new role within The Security Institute team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
The purpose of the role is to support the CEO and the Board of Directors in our policy and public affairs workstream which is part of our influencing pillar in the Institute.
You will work closely with the Institutes CEO, managers, officers and members to inform work undertaken.
**3.** **About you**
You will be a self-driven individual who has an understanding policy and public affairs and who can work within a confidential and fast pace setting.
You will be able to absorb complex information and make this accessible to non-policy professionals.
**4.** **Main duties and responsibilities (not necessarily in priority order)**
- To develop and maintain the policy and public affairs plan.
- To conduct research and compile data to inform policy planning.
- To prepare high-quality reports as required by the Chief Executive.
- To keep abreast of the security professional policy landscape.
- To provide policy support to the Chief Executive Officer.
- To work closely with the Membership & Events Team to ensure cross organisation collaboration.
- To organise virtual or in-person meetings as required.
- To prepare and edit correspondence, communications, presentations, and other documents as required.
- To handle confidential information with discretion and to maintain strict confidentiality.
- To assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CEO.
- To ensure that records are maintained in the correct system (CRM/SharePoint) in accordance with our internal policies.
- To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties, maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
- To build positive working relationships both with internal colleagues and externally with stakeholders.
- To represent the Institute in a professional manner and to act at all times in a manner which will not damage its reputation.
**5.** **Essential Criteria**:
- Knowledge of how the policy and public affairs landscapes operate
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- An understanding of or interest in the security profession.
- Ability to interpret and use research effectively.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to write clearly and concisely about complex issues.
- Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work on own initiative without supervision, manage a diverse workload,
- Strong relationship-building and networking skills, able to represent The Institute in a positive and professional way
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work positively and collaboratively in a high performing team
- Highly competent in using the Microsoft Office 365 suite
- Capacity and willingness to travel on occasion throughout the UK, including overnight stays.
