Job description

The Industrial decarbonisation Officer will play a key role in supporting an ambitious and collaborative programme of carbon reduction - driving Oxford towards net zero carbon emissions by 2040 as part of the Zero Carbon Oxford Partnership (ZCOP).

The ZCOP is a group of Oxford’s major institutions and organisations including universities, hospitals, councils and large businesses who have given their support to the aspiration of achieving net zero carbon emissions as a city by 2040. The group has committed to working collaboratively to accelerate carbon reduction and requires a co-ordinator to support the facilitation of this ambitious programme.

The Industrial decarbonisation Officer will co-ordinate several activities to support the development of ZCOP’s Industrial Roadmap and Action Plan. This Industrial Roadmap and Action Plan will sit alongside the existing city-wide plan and will outline collaborative and individual actions for Oxford's manufactures and industry to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2035 and net zero by 2040.

The officer will also undertake activities to develop ZCOP’s Industrial Cluster, a group of relevant local and regional organisations committed to the delivery of the Industrial Roadmap and Action Plan. The Cluster will steer local, collaborative interventions to enable industrial decarbonisation. Its focus will evolve with the delivery of the roadmap to ensure the join-up of activities to decarbonise.

This will require significant coordination. As well as being responsible for the secretarial functions of the Cluster, the successful applicant will co-ordinate several activities on behalf of the Partnership intended to facilitate the development of the Roadmap, including conducting research, organising workshops, and Sprint Groups.

The successful applicant will be a motivated and highly organised sustainability professional with excellent communication and organisation skills. You will have a proven ability to build consensus, influence and negotiate as well as being familiar with project management tools and approaches to coordinate a complex work programme.
