**DBT**

The Department for Business and Trade brings business and trade together into a single department, creating a department with all the levers to unleash the power of British businesses, reform regulation to reduce burdens and unlock Brexit freedoms.

The department will bring together business expertise and world-class trade negotiators under the vision of making the UK the best place to start and grow a business - driving growth, increasing jobs, and raising wages and living standards. It will amplify engagement between business and government and strengthen our offer to international investors. The department will support investment, unlock exports, and open up new markets through trade deals, with joined-up offers of support to UK businesses operating both at home and abroad.

The Department for Business and Trade brings together the business focused functions of the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for International Trade (DIT).

**Job description**:

- The Business Grants & Investment Team (BGI) is seeking two talented and ambitious individuals to fill key roles helping recover funds which have been incorrectly paid out to both businesses and individuals so that the money can be returned to His Majesty’s Treasury (HMT) and recirculated back into government.
- The roles will initially focus on reconciliation, assurance and debt recovery which has arisen from the Covid-19 Business Support Grants paid out by Local Authorities on behalf of government, but are expected to support other policy initiatives over time, particularly the energy support schemes.
- The roles require strong organisational ability and attention to detail, with an ability to follow a clear process to handle significant data in a timely manner.
- You must be comfortable using your own initiative to address issues and work independently. You will also need excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer care, with the ability to form strong, positive working relationships with a variety of contacts both within and outside of government.
- We care about the work-life balance of our people and flexible working is available. We also offer structured personal development, progression opportunities and outstanding training to all of our people.**Person specification**:
Checking data submitted through the team mailbox, acknowledging receipt and/or raising queries with the Local Authority, saving details submitted and logging repayments and referrals on a central tracker.

Preparing and issuing legal documents to Local Authorities and grant recipients.

Uploading debt referrals to an external agency through an online portal, requiring careful attention to detail and accuracy. You will be a primary point of contact for the agency on the detail uploaded.

Monitoring direct repayments to government, tracking receipt and escalating any issues that arise.

Working with individuals from cross-department within government as well as external stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships, ensuring stakeholders are given appropriate priority and that any queries are resolved effectively and/or that the correct person is informed.

Working on a range of other workstreams as required, including Freedom of Information requests and supporting ongoing audit.

**Skills and Experience**

We are looking for motivated, creative and resilient people who want to challenge themselves in a busy and fast-moving environment. Your previous experience is not as important as having a can-do attitude and demonstrating flexibility, as the skills to be successful can be learned on the job.

We’d be particularly interested in hearing from you if you:
Are a well-organised person who can prioritise competing demands to ensure tasks are completed on time and to the highest quality.

Have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build relationships with many different people.

Take pride in your work and have a keen eye for detail.

Have an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Can work autonomously and deliver results under pressure.

In return, we can offer you a job that:
Is both challenging and rewarding, and part of a high performing and supportive environment where people can bring their whole selves to work.

Has particular stretch for the EO grade - jobs with DBT provide a sound base to deve
