Hampshire and Isle of Wight Liaison and Diversion Service (L&D) is looking for a new Youth Lead Practitioner to be based within Portsmouth Police custody - focusing on working with young people who have been suspected of committing a criminal offence.

- You will be responsible for leading, developing and sustaining the Children and Young People Pathway for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight L&D Service.
- From your base in Portsmouth Police Custody, you will be establishing this specialist pathway across Police custody suites and Courts, as well as any other related pathways where our young people may be.
- You will work with your equivalent who is based in Southampton, to provide oversight and outreach for youths across Hampshire, and you will provide expert support to our colleagues on the Isle of Wight.
- You will be supported by an experienced, progressive, friendly, and compassionate team of professionals. You’ll work to an agreed framework and project plan, which is informed by the national L&D specification.
- You will be working with young people who are in the criminal justice system and expected to deal with complex, sensitive, or contentious cases requiring negotiation, persuasive and discernment skills.
- A confident role model demonstrating high standards of professional conduct, you will offer specialist advice to the Police, Courts, and Youth Offending Teams as appropriate, offering assessments, liaison and advice in order to identify care pathways for young people. You will provide written information as required to external partners.
- With excellent communication skills, you will be emotionally resilient, confident discussing complex and sensitive information in a clear and empathetic manner

**The “must haves” for you to be considered for this role**:  
- Registered professional with a degree level or equivalent qualification in mental health nursing, occupational therapy, social work, Health Visitor (SCPHN) & RSCN (with appropriate youth experience) and with at least 3 years post qualification experience and have a keen interest in criminal justice and offender health.
- Happy with flexibility, you will have access to your own car and will travel to multiple and varied locations.
- You will have experience of working autonomously and managing priorities whilst delivering a service objective.
