**About the Role**

A vacancy has arisen for Junior Network Engineer (Operations) within STFC Digital Infrastructure (DI).
The post will be based primarily at our Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire.

The Digital Infrastructure department in STFC are responsible for the delivery of the enterprise Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and services that underpin the STFC scientific programme of activities. The work that we do iskey to protecting the organisations digital assets and is an enabler for the work of the scientific community here at STFC.

As a Junior Network Engineer, you will provide day to day support and maintenance of the network and communications environment as supported by DI, including fulfilling service requests, resolving incidents, supporting the service desk. You can expect opportunitiesto develop technical skills through increasingly autonomous projects whilst under the guidance and mentorship of senior team members. If you have an aptitude and desire to progress in your career with STFC, you can benefit from appropriate training opportunitiesand guidance for career enhancement. A progression path leading to Senior Network Engineer or indeed other roles within the organisation is anticipated. You may also be eligible for Degree Apprenticeship programmes after a qualifying period.

**Essential Knowledge and Experience**:

- It is essential that you have 5 GCSE or equivalent qualifications including Maths and English
- A working understanding of a range of network and communications functionality in an organisation providing various business systems
- Experience supporting several of the following technologies:

- IP routing and configuration of routers
- Network switches and configuration of switches
- TCP / IP protocols v4 & v6
- DNS / DCHP / Radius servers
- Wired and Wireless networking
- Firewalls
