**Job summary**:

We have an exciting new role available to lead our digital channels and engagement to help bring to life the vital work of government and make it relevant to our key target audiences on social media.
**Job description**:
The role will see you head up the Channels & Engagement section of the Digital Communications team in our directorate. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality and impactful content is on our channels targeting the right audiences, developing and delivering platform-specific strategies and best practices, identifying and experimenting with emerging channels and formats, and using evidence and data to inform our approach.
The role reports to Head of Digital Communications and works closely with the Director of Communications and the Senior Management Team.
This role is only available on a full-time working basis.
**Person specification**:
- Lead the Channels & Engagement section of the team to ensure the right content is published at the right time for the right audiences.
- Lead on the development and execution of innovative channel strategies, with the aim of becoming the gold standard within government.
- Lead on emerging platforms and content formats, identifying the right approach to grow reach and engagement while innovating.
- You will need to have a proven track record of using social media channels to increase audience reach and genuine engagement and have a broad knowledge of changing trends and techniques. This should include setting and running new channels with implementation and management strategies.
- Work closely with the Head of Digital, Head of Creative Content & Video and Head of Digital Strategy to set the tone of voice and brand positioning for Home Office on social media and ensure this lives through all of our output and channel use.
- Lead the upskilling of the department in digital storytelling, trends and use of platforms.
- Use analytics and insight to optimise the performance of each channel and formats against the wider communications objectives.
- Strong understanding of government communications and how digital communications can support the departmental objectives.
- Strong understanding of how to use research and insight to inform and evaluate digital communications.
- You will be comfortable setting clear direction, encouraging creativity and innovation, ensuring high standards are met at all times and building best practice.
- You will also have a keen understanding of the news agenda and how your work can tap into this to resonate with people across society.

**Essential Skills**
- Expert knowledge of all main social media channels, changing digital engagement trends and content management.
- Knowledge of emerging channels and trends
- Ability to write accurate, engaging, platform-appropriate social media copy
- Digital and content planning experience
- Ability to manage people and senior internal and external stakeholders
- High degree of accuracy, timeliness and good sense of news and politics
**Desirable Skills**
- Experience of content creation, including video storyboarding and script-writing
- Some knowledge of photo and video editing software
- Experience of working in a similar role in government
