We are looking for a number of therapists to join our mainstream primary and early years services on fixed term contracts for between 6 and 12 months. The posts are appropriate for newly qualified therapists.

Applicants should eligible to be registered with the HCPC and Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (UK).

To manage a speech and language therapy caseload with a range of needs, working with children and their families. This would include working in clinic and in educational settings.

The caseloads are extremely wide-ranging including children autism, DLD, speech sound difficulties and learning difficulties. Many of the children on the caseload will have EHCPs with complex needs and autism.

There will be opportunities to gain a wide range of paediatric experience in this post and you will find a strong commitment to professional training and development, together with friendly peer support. The Service implements the Newly Qualified Practitioners Project to ensure the initial year of practice is structured and well supported. You will be supported to achieve your RCSLT competencies.

To assess and evaluate children referred to speech and language therapy and their communication context.

To develop appropriate communication targets and interventions for children with speech and language needs.

To write reports identifying strengths and weaknesses, targets, and appropriate strategies and interventions.

To mentor parent/carers, teaching staff and others in skill-building communication and the development of nurturing language learning environments for children with speech and language needs.

To provide information and advice to others regarding the management and care of children with communication difficulties.

To evaluate therapy outcomes.

To adapt practice to meet individual patient’s circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.

To ensure that patients and carers are involved in the planning of their care plans wherever possible.

To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers, families and colleagues, and ensure that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

To demonstrate negotiation skills in motivating clients, and adults supporting them.

To contribute to interagency/MDT collaborative working.

To manage and prioritise own caseload

To employ clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures.

To be aware of, adhere to, and implement service and team plans and policies.

To gather activity data accurately and regularly.

To be accountable for own professional action and recognize own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.

To work within defined departmental and national protocols/policies and professional code of conduct.

To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust/agency policies.

To share information with others observing data protection guidelines and confidentiality.

To be responsible for the security, care and maintenance of resources and ensure standards of infection control and safety are maintained - including equipment loaned to clients.

To participate in the delivery of training packages.
