Boston, United Kingdom United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

New to Care? Healthcare Support Worker Opportunities

What ever your background story, if you're aged 18 years or over and have a passion for caring and supporting others, we want to hear from you.

We currently have opportunities for individuals without any previous experience within our acute hospitals at Lincoln, Grantham and Boston.

To support you, we will provide a comprehensive 4 weeks induction programme during which you will receive the training, skills and knowledge to ensure your success in the role. Ongoing training and development will be provided through our Apprenticeship Programme.

To start after 1st April 2024

Working life

As a healthcare support worker, you’ll work under the supervision of a healthcare professional, supporting them and helping patients on their journey back to full health.

It’s a hands-on-role, but also one of the most rewarding. One minute you could be taking bloods and the next lending an ear to an anxious patient. Your day-to-day will vary depending on which part of the NHS you’re working in.

**Based in the hospital, your duties may include**:
Helping patients to move around

Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks

Making patients feel comfortable

Providing personal care to patients

Serving meals and helping to feed patients

No experience? No problem
Entry requirements and skills needed

Many of our Healthcare support workers have joined from different backgrounds such as customer service, hospitality, and the travel sector to name a few. All you need is the human touch, a willingness to learn, and an ability to bring a smile to someone’s face.

Whilst we require a good standard of literacy and numeracy, academic qualifications aren’t everything. You’ll need to be caring, kind and willing to get stuck into the role. It’s a hands-on-environment where teamwork, communication and organisational skills are vital.

Our Trust is situated in the beautiful county of Lincolnshire and is one of the biggest acute hospital trusts in England, serving a population of more than 700,000 people.

Our Board have recently agreed a new vision statement - “Outstanding Care Personally Delivered” - stating their ambition for our Trust to be among the best.

Our latest CQC report increased our ratings for being effective and well-led from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’. Our rating for caring remained as ‘Good’. This is in recognition of the huge amount of work that our amazing staff have done to improve the quality of care for our patients in recent years.

We are committed to helping our staff balance their work and home lives and ensure they feel supported, valued and appreciated.

Age Criteria

Please be advised that our current opportunities are only available to individuals over the age of 18.

Should you be under 18 years of age an interested in starting your career within health and care, please contact us for more information on our Health & Care Cadet Programme and current vacancies.
Training and career development

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any prior experience, as we will provide you with the dedicated training and support needed to help you excel within the role, and beyond, should you wish.

Working in a new environment can be daunting, and so to help you prepare, you will initially be placed onto our “New to Care Induction ”. This 4 week programme will enable us to ease you into the role and the service area within which you will be working. The programme will provide you with the basic nursing skills needed, whilst also supporting you to gain the required Care Certificate qualification.

Following your induction, you'll then move into your permanent position which will include the 24/7 shift patterns required.

Pay and benefits

Upon commencement, you will complete our mandatory 4 week “New to Care” Induction. The programme is delivered Monday to Friday, during office hours, to enable you to attend group training, workshops, and site visits.

Upon completion of your induction, you will commence your standard working hours which will be around 37.5hours and will include a mix of shifts, such as nights, early starts, evenings and weekends. Enhanced rates of pay are also paid for unsocial hours.

You’ll also have access to our generous pension scheme and health service discounts, as well as 27 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, which increases the longer you’re in the service.
