We are looking for a senior healthcare assistant with a professional outlook to join our team in the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) & Medical Day Case Unit (MDCU).

Our Same Day Emergency Care unit provides acute ambulatory medical care to patients requiring the assessment and diagnostic expertise of an hospital setting. Our service aims to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge patients in an ambulatory setting without the need to overnight inpatient admissions. Our nurse led Medical Day Case Unit provides day case care to patient requiring hospital treatment such as blood transfusions, infused medication or diagnostic tests requiring monitoring of key parameters.

This post will be suitable for an experienced, dynamic, enthusiastic, hard-working individual with experience of working in an acute hospital who has an interest in this area and is looking to expand their existing knowledge and skills. Technical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and IT are advantageous.

The senior healthcare assistant role includes (not limited) the following duties:

- Meet and great patients on arrival.
- Complete initial assessments including observations.
- Perform venepuncture and cannulation as needs.
- Perform electrocardiograms.
- Assist senior staff with delegated duties.
- Assist patients with personal care and toileting.
- Assist patients with eating and drinking.
- Manage referrals and book patients under supervision.
- Manage stock and equipment.
- Cleaning duties.
- Escort patient to diagnostic tests if needed.
- Take part in improvement initiatives in the unit.
- Liaise with MDT to plan patient care.

Role Summary (for full details please read job description and person specification attached)

Carry out assigned tasks as part of the clinical team within SDEC Unit in support of registered nurses and to undertake aspects of care provision without direct supervision. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of service users and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
1. Contribute to implementing and progressing of a range of patient treatment and care programmes as delegated by a registered healthcare practitioner, and report back on progress. This may involve:

- making minor modifications to the care/treatment plan within prescribed parameters
- supervision of individual/group patient therapy sessions
- timetabling/running patient activities (eg. manage referrals and bookings).

**1. Participate as an active member of the healthcare team**:

- organising own day-to-day work tasks (with support available)
- participating in ongoing training and development, and maintaining skills necessary for the role
- contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the service.
