**About us**
- Promoting Independence
- Respecting privacy and dignity
- Involving people in every aspect of their care, giving them the opportunity to make life decisions.
- Fostering individual abilities
- Supporting people to access local community organisations and other services.
- Supporting people to develop domestic skills, life skills and social skills.
- Supporting people to handle their own finances safely.
- Supporting people to maintain good health and well-being.
- Ensuring people know about and enjoy their basic human rights.
- Helping people to move on to more independent accommodation as soon as they are ready.
Routines:
Although all routines are flexible to meet individual service users needs, we hope these guidelines will prove useful.
Weekday mornings:
Make sure people are up in time for work/day services.
People help themselves to breakfast. Some people will be fully independent, others will need supervision.
Household chores are allocated on a daily rota posted in the Kitchen.
Staff should encourage people to do daily jobs such as dusting and polishing, hoovering, cleaning bathrooms and washing the kitchen floor before leaving for day services/groups/volunteer work.
Weekday evenings:
On arriving at the house, staff should check the answerphone, note any call in the phone book and follow up any matters arising.
People generally arrive home from day services/volunteer work between 3pm and 5pm
Staff will support people to visit shops, banks etc. if requested and there may be odd bits of shopping to pick up, for instance, fresh items for the evening meal.
Supervise residents to cook the evening meal
- evening meal to be ready normally before evening activities. Staff should only assist clearing away, if necessary, but should be on hand.
At bedtime, staff should check that everyone is in the house before checking that all doors and downstairs windows are secure. Staff may retire to bed at 11pm but should be prepared for their sleep to be disturbed if people need support during the night.
People are encouraged to have a regular day each week on which they clean and tidy their bedrooms.
Check that medication is taken by self-medicating people and give medication to any people who have opted for staff to take charge of their medication.
People retire when they please.
Staff should support people to do health and safety checks around the property with reference to risk assessments and the health and safety elements of the quality assurance system.
Weekends:
People rise when they please and complete daily tasks at any time but preferably before recreational activities. Some may require some staff assistance.
Saturdays are usually a good opportunity to support people to do personal shopping, locally and further afield, and to learn about and sample local bus routes.
It is possible that you may be required to work one to one with a resident for some shifts. During this shift you are solely responsible to support that individual person and you should not take responsibility for any other people at Fairway House, Link House or Corner House. Any excursions which include people from Fairway House, Corner House or Link House will require another member of staff from the relevant houses to be present.
Activities
Staff will support and encourage people to maintain current activities and seek out possible new activities and local community organisations.
Staff should encourage people to visit local recreational establishments (eg cinema, leisure centre, clubs etc) and also to travel further afield to holiday destinations, shows etc.
Where the people are being taken to their activities in the company vehicle, the driver is responsible for reading and complying with the rules and safeguards as described in the Risk Assessments for travelling. Prior to any excursion, staff should ensure that people are aware of any specific risks associated with the particular activity and take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of the people.
Requests for individual activities are to be encouraged.
Staff are expected to support people to partake in their chosen activities/excursions on Saturdays and Sundays. If there are no requests from residents, staff will be expected to suggest options. Staff use the company vehicle where necessary or help with bus timetables.
Individual risk assessments will indicate whether it is considered safe for people to be left in the house without staffing for limited lengths of time.
Other support
Staff are expected to give emotional support to residents in times of stress or distress and judge, in consultation with management, when outside agencies/specialists need to be called on.
Staff are expected to offer advice on day-to-day life skills. These include domestic skills, social skills, personal safety and security and managing finances. Staff must refer to management if the advice required is outside the member of staff’s expertise. It is staff’s
