**About the role**:

You can be a pivotal part of the Digital Solutions & Services (DS&S) team at the University, responsible for the delivery of a modern data service.

The Data Services Specialist will focus on the proactive development and maintenance of the university’s data analytics platform, and will be working with key partners across the university who require data and defines, shapes, and refines analytical reporting requirements in both tactical and strategic projects and initiatives.

This is a rare and unique opportunity open to those with demonstrable experience in data services who want to progress in their career. Starting as a Data Services Specialist, you'll follow a dedicated development plan to support you in to the role of Senior Data Services Specialist within 12 months. With mentorship and on-going support from the team, you will experience tangible progression and become equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of an independent data analyst.

**Principal accountabilities**:
**Data Services**:

- To support the delivery of data services in accordance with the IT Services strategy, strategic priorities, and business service requirements.
- Help with the gathering of data and reporting requirements from decision makers across the university. Reviewing whether strategic and operational objectives are identified and factored into the data and reporting outputs and escalate as necessary if not.
- With data provided from multiple sources and systems, use data modelling skills to ensure output relates to business requirements.
- With support, combine data from multiple sources to provide meaningful bespoke intelligence and insights to inform decision making in an agile environment.
- With support and development, present complex information in a relevant and engaging manner, appropriate to the level of the audience to successfully support decision making.
- Carry out technical and functional analysis of data sources (internal and external) across all university functions and systems. This will include a full range of university systems such as Finance, HR, Student Systems all with different technical specifications and data sets.
- Build developments and processes for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data using MS SQL and Azure technologies, from a wide variety of data sources and technologies (both on premise and cloud).
- With support, create and maintain corporate conformed data sets for analytics.
- Help drive forward the university’s data analysis and data visualization agenda.
- Maintain a catalogue of data content (structure, level of detail, and amount of history) in alignment with the evolving needs of the business. Maintain the enterprise data model based on business requirements which requires scoping needs and planning developments appropriately.

**Information Security**:

- Maintain security of data services systems through implementing secure strategies, policies and controls and automating where possible.
- Work closely with data owners and Legal, Governance & Assurance Services to ensure continual compliance with all data security and governance requirements.

**Problem management**:

- Investigate and escalate problems with systems, processes, and services. Assist with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.

**Relationships**:

- Work in a team environment to deliver complex solutions to multiple internal and external business units.
- Demonstrate inclusivity, trust and rapport within Data Services and colleagues throughout the university.
