**Job Purpose**
The overall purpose of this role is to provide creative communications and engagement support to the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit’s Knowledge Team, and to work closely with colleagues from across the Unit on communications and engagement activities to enhance the profile of SPHSU and its research.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Create compelling content and manage communications projects for both print and online publications and social media platforms, ensuring a targeted approach, with clear, insight-driven messaging for multiple audiences delivered via the most appropriate channels.
2. Plan and implement effective internal communications and engagement strategies along with Knowledge Team colleagues, and identify and implement opportunities for process improvement.
3. Interpret and analyse web and digital media usage and trends using Google Analytics (and other analytics tools) to measure the effectiveness of campaigns in line with strategic objectives and provide future recommendations for Unit outputs.
4. Lead on creating, developing and maintaining the Unit website and internal communication platform, enhancing the user journeys and experience.
5. Responsible for ensuring that the Unit’s content meets accessibility requirements and provide advice and guidance to colleagues on best practices for accessibility.
7. Be an active member of, and represent the Knowledge Team at, project management meetings and committees.
8. Produce and edit the Unit’s podcasts and video material. Manage the Unit’s podcast hosting service and directories and ensure that the Unit’s audio and video materials targets and responds to wide and varied audiences and ensure that our audio-visual content complies with the latest accessibility requirements.
9. Provide and edit content for the Unit’s internal bulletin and external newsletter and for the School’s monthly newsletter.
10. Manage the Unit’s external-facing publications record (enlighten shelves) and work closely with the central library team.
11. Along with the Knowledge Team, create content for the social media accounts for the Unit and external projects.
12. Responsible for keeping up-to-date with and ensuring compliance with relevant legislations and policies to do with research communications.
13. Undertake any other duties as requested by the Operations Lead and Communications Manager.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development.
A2 Knowledge of content management systems (CMS), including WordPress.
A3 Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.
A4 Knowledge of digital analytics, particularly Google Analytics.

**Desirable**:

B1 Knowledge of HE sector.
B2 Knowledge of HTML & CSS.
B3 Knowledge of photography, videography, video editing and audio editing.

C1 Proven ability to generate imaginative ideas in delivering creative campaigns to meet strategic objectives.
C2 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences.
C3 Excellent eye for detail and accuracy.
C4 Proven ability to manage several complex tasks/projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
C5 Problem solving and organisational skills, including the ability to work on a proactive basis and use own initiative and judgment to resolve problems independently.
C6 Proven ability to provide process development/improvement.
C7 High level of influencing and negotiating skills.

**Desirable**:

D1 Excellent editing skills.
D2 Ability to communicate about sensitive matters with a high degree of intersectional and intercultural competency.

**Experience**

E2 Experience of managing websites, social media and writing for digital media.
E3 Experience of innovative content creation.
E4 Demonstratable experience of creating accessible digital content.
E5 Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders at various levels.

**Desirable**:

F1 Experience of working with bulk e-communications platforms such as Campaign Monitor. F2 Interest in and knowledge of population health. F3 Experience of supporting events. F4 Demonstratable relevant work experience of creating communication strategies.
