The role includes:
**To be Responsible for**
- To be responsible for achieving the desired outcomes within your rooms on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as required by the Manager
- To ensure that children are safe, cared for and educated to the highest standard at all times
- Effective leadership of staff within the room, exemplifying good practice and being a role model for other staff.

Thereby supporting the Nursery Manager by running the room to agreed policies, procedures and directed tasks.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

**a) Organisational responsibilities**
- Responsible for the children’s social and educational development. This involves planning and supervising activities including reading, art and craft, music and cooking. The Room Manager is responsible for observing and monitoring children. They will work closely with parents and report any concerns.
- Responsibility for the safety of the children is an important aspect of the work. Physical care such as feeding, nappy changing, health, welfare and security forms a large part of the work. The Room Manager may also be required from time to time to make reports on a child's development.
- To deliver a service of the highest standard that will develop and improve each child’s quality of life. To respect each child as an individual, taking in its appropriate needs.

b) Environment
- To provide a safe and learning environment by the preparation of risk assessments for the room, activities, toys, equipment and staff, to implement safety rules.
- To provide an environment where enjoyment and fun are linked with discovery and learning.
- To facilitate within the room regular staff team meetings, for planning and the preparation of resources and materials needed for planned Nursery activities, interest tables and displays to simulate communication and conversation.
- To assist with the care and maintenance of furniture, toys, equipment and resources. To monitor stock levels of consumables and to request items as may be required.

c) Representation/liaison
- To value partnership and involvement with children and parents / guardians / carers in the curriculum and running of the Nursery in order to promote the child’s self-esteem. To support effective communications with all staff and parents / guardians / carers.

**d) Communication**
- Daily, weekly, monthly briefing with staff team in your room.
- To provide a chain of communication throughout the nursery
- To focus staff on to key tasks

e) Training programme (minimum requirements)
- Safeguarding
- Relevant First Aid 12-hour paediatric course
- Manual Handling
- Food Hygiene
- To participate in in-service training courses as appropriate
- To actively participate in Training Programmes, attending Professional Development activities as appropriate

**f) Staffing**

To assist the Nursery Manager with:

- leading your team through effective communication and delegation of tasks
- managing your resources (i.e. people, time, equipment and resources) efficiently
- Ensuring all staff inducted to their position and area, provide regular supervision, Appraisals and personal development plans.
- taking direction and supporting each other as the ‘Management Team”

g) General Duties
- To attend and contribute to staff meetings and organisational priorities such as SEN reviews, meetings with parents / guardians / carers, and to undertake home visits as appropriate.
- To participate in assessments of, and preparing reports on, children’s work and development.
- To contribute to the social and extra-curricular activities of the Nursery and assisting with their organisation as required.
- To leave the Nursery ready for the following session, ensuring that plans are ready to be implemented and resources are available.
- Abide by organisational policies and procedures.
- To have a current understanding of where all learning profiles are at and support practitioners with time to work on them
- To demonstrate good practice and an effective role model for other staff.
- Undertake other duties, as may be necessary from time-to-time.
- Will arrange all settles and pass on communications from parents to nursery managers/admin assistants
- Answer the phone
- May be asked to assume the responsibility as the ‘Named person in charge’ for a short period of time
- Are responsible for all aspects of the planning and delegating of the planning
- To be flexible with working at other nursery locations (Westbury Park/Clifton Park/Torwood House School)
- May undertake mentoring duties during the new staff 10 week induction period
