The Government Security Function (GSF) oversees the delivery of protective security across Government. Our Mission is to enable Government to protect citizens and provide vital public services by understanding and managing security risks. We set the strategy and standards for Government Security, monitor departmental security performance, manage pan-government security incidents, support the delivery of key security capabilities and lead the Government Security Profession.

The Government Security Group (GSG) is the centre of the Function, based within the Cabinet Office. GSG is transforming the Government’s approach to protective security to ensure it is fit to meet the challenges of the digital age. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team, with a breadth of stakeholders including in other Government departments, the National Technical Authorities and the Agencies, and to contribute to delivering improved security across Government.

The Cyber Defence directorate within GSG is responsible for delivering the Government Cyber Security Strategy, to protect public services and improve cyber resilience across government. The team covers all aspects of defensive cyber security for Government including strategy, policy, assurance, red teaming, capability development, and the operational deliverables of incident, risk and vulnerability management. **Job description**:

- This role will be joining the Cyber Assurance team, a critical component of the Cyber Directorate responsible for evaluating and improving cyber security across government. We are rolling out a new approach to assurance, GovAssure, which will transform government’s approach to cyber security and resilience. As part of this team you will gain a unique insight into the cyber security challenges facing government and its partners, and will work with National Technical Authorities, the national security community and industry to tackle these challenges. You will build trusted relationships with departmental delivery teams, and use your understanding of departmental context to shape implementation of the scheme. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of government, delivering a ground-breaking new approach to cyber security assurance as part of a collaborative, inclusive and skilled team.**Person specification**:
**Key areas of responsibility**

The post holder will be responsible for:

- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across departments and National Technical Authorities;
- Understanding cyber security maturity and delivery at departmental level, including key barriers to achieving good cyber security outcomes;
- Evaluating the success of the GovAssure scheme and identifying opportunities for improvement;
- Recommending strategic changes including new policy and capability initiatives to address cross-cutting issues;
- Briefing Ministers and other senior stakeholders on cyber security issues;
- Contributing to government strategy, policy and cyber assurance activity through engagement with the wider Cyber Directorate team;
- You will also have the opportunity to support broader operational requirements in crisis as part of our broader surge capacity.

Essential skills and experience:

- Experience of working in cyber security;
- Confident working with both technical and business stakeholders.

Desirable skills and experience:

- Experience of working in national security
- Working across organisations with a range of stakeholders

**Level of Security Clearance required (must be SC minimum)**:

- SC - with a willingness to undergo DV if required.
