**Job summary**:
The Army International, Communications and Engagement (IC&E) directorate is a dynamic, exciting, and innovative part of the Army HQ Strategic Centre, focused on telling the Army’s story through creative approaches and engaging with our key domestic and international audiences.

Assistant Head IC&E Programmes, leads on the ambition to increase awareness and understanding of the delivery of the Army’s Equipment Programme (EP). You’ll also encourage and deliver opportunities for open and transparent engagement between the other single Services and Head Office, as well as the MOD’s three main delivery agents: Defence Equipment and Support (DES), Defence Digital (DD) and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

Key to delivering these ambitions is overseeing both internal and external communications to ensure consistent, current, and coherent messaging. An area of business predominantly delivered by the wider IC&E Team of which the post holder will be a central part of, with routine support from the Defence Department for Communications (DDC). Your role is to create opportunities across the Army’s Programme of Record to enable the wider team to message and influence key stakeholders and audiences.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The AH IC&E Programmes is the principal Government Communications Services (GCS) specialist, bringing the latest Modern Comms Operating Model (MCOM) understanding into the team. The post holder works on behalf of Head IC&E, embedded within the D Progs central staff in Andover. Working alongside the Chief of Staff (COS) and accountable to Director Programmes (2*) and Hd IC&E, for the smooth, efficient and coherent messaging across the Programme of Record. You will also work closely with other members of the Army enterprise such as Field Army Plans and DES as the principal delivery agent for the EP.

You will report directly to Deputy Hd of Army IC&E.

Main areas of responsibility are:

- Lead the overall communications effort for D Progs
- Develop and deliver the annual communications plan for the D Progs, with a real focus on strategy dissemination and understanding.
- Maintain a forward look of communications opportunities across the organisation, working with colleagues to collect information and prepare content in support of the strategic intent.
- Remain aware of changing requirements across the growing organisation - testing and adjusting the communications approach.
- Refine the EP communications intent, building on early recommendations and learning from other colleagues across the Army enterprise.
- Contribute towards the Army’s prosperity agenda as part of the Land Industrial Strategy, maximising opportunities for exports with international partners and allies in consultation with Army International Engagement team.
- Manage and oversee delivery of the established internal communications drumbeat, and communications channels, standardising messaging and upholding our brand.
- Connect Army (and wider MOD) colleagues, across the organisation, encouraging improved understanding, collaboration, and consistent messaging to build advocates for our activity.
- Represent D Progs in communications conversations across Defence, wider government, academia, and industry.
- Build strong networks, and working relationships, with communications colleagues to deliver messaging across channels and audiences.
- Work closely with DDC to deliver greater effect and leverage additional channels (particularly external).
- Work collaboratively within the organisation headquarters, as a visible senior leader and communicator.
- Act as focal point for all communications enquiries, and work alongside the Army’s Secretariat to ensure all programmes related ministerial and communications messaging remains accurate and coherent.

**Person specification**:
We’re looking for an experienced communicator, with a broad knowledge of the Army and wider Defence, creative flair, and positive can-do attitude. Your written and verbal communications skills will be excellent, along with impeccable attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. You’ll also be able to brief clearly, advise appropriately and present effectively.
