Apprentice Clinical Associate Psychologist

Wymondham, United Kingdom Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are recruiting a Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAPs) apprentice in our Adult CMHT based in Gateway House Wymondham. As an apprentice role you will work in the Adult CMHT under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist to develop competencies in working with adults with severe and enduring mental health. Further to working in the adult CMHT the successful applicant will also join the September 2024 cohort for the CAPS programme at UEA leading to a masters levels qualification. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the post holder will take up the role of Clinical Associate Psychologist in the South Adult CMHT and progress to a substantive band 6 post within the trust. These highly competitive posts are a new initiative to England. These roles create an opportunity to work psychologically with people suffering from severe and enduring mental health difficulties in a community setting.

You will be a graduate Psychologist with experience of working with people with complex mental health problems. We are especially interested in increasing diversity in the psychology workforce and this post may be of particular interest to graduates who wish to join the psychology workforce but are not aspiring to become Clinical or Counselling Psychologists.

The duties of the job fall under two components. The first of these is to undertake a structured programme of learning at the University of East Anglia, whilst developing competencies on placement in the Adult CMHT in South Norfolk. Successful completion of these and passing the end point assessment of the CAPS programme will lead to the award of an MSc in Clinical Associate Psychology and subsequent employment as Clinical Associate Psychologist (Band 6).

On placement the post holder will undertake specialised psychological assessments, treatments and other types of clinical intervention appropriate to this level of training with individual and groups of service users.

As an apprentice on placement the post holder will receive supervision within the job role to ensure that they meet the required levels of competence to complete the MSc course and the end point assessment.

To become able to work independently, initially under supervision, on a day-to-day basis. This work will be supervised and reviewed regularly with supervision usually being offered by a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

Trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists are required to abide by the BPS Code of Conduct and meet induction standards, and NHS employers are required to abide by the Code of Practice for employers.

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established professional networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

Why Norfolk and Suffolk? The people here are warm and welcoming, you’ll never be far from the beautiful coastline or Broads National Park. We’re an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops and theatres. We have excellent shopping, eating out, top ranking schooling and affordable house prices too.

The Apprenticeship post involves undertaking a Master's level course at the University of East Anglia. This is typically a blended course with approximately 75% of sessions delivered online and the remainder delivered in person at UEA. Attendance at all UEA teaching days is compulsory, and annual leave cannot be booked for UEA teaching days. Accepting a place on the CAPS course had implications for the funding of future NHSE courses.

The apprenticeship is at band 5, increasing to band 6 upon successful qualification.

Please note you must be able to provide proof of English and Maths at a grade of level 2 (C) or above to be accepted for this post.

Successful applicants must be able to start in post on or before 27 th August 2024.
