National Highways are recruiting an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Birmingham, with a flexible approach to working and regular visits to our sites around the West Midlands region.

**_You will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have a full clean driving licence to be considered for this position _**

**Your Now Role**:
This is an exciting time to join us as we launch our new Environmental Sustainability Strategy. You will help bring this strategy to life through contributing to activities that will support development of environmental schemes and by providing specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders across a range of environmental topics and projects.

There is no immediate need to think about specialising in any one area, though the role will focus on supporting the delivery of a variety of schemes / projects undertaking environmental assessments, audits and inspections. Our highly supportive team offers opportunities to develop towards specialising as you grow into the role and there is a clear career development path to progress into more senior roles in the team and wider organisation.

**What You'll Be Leading on**:

- Providing environmental advice and to internal and external stakeholders
- Undertaking Environmental Assessments of schemes at early design stage of schemes / projects
- Carrying out environmental audits and inspections of contractors and sites
- Supporting development of solutions, considering new techniques, materials, feasibility, and costs
- Collaborating with the engineering teams in ensuring programme plans reflect asset needs and priorities, environmental legislation, business priorities and strategies.

**To Be Successful**:

- Membership of professional body, CIEEM, IEMA or similar
- Good general environmental awareness and skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
