The Role

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join our Library Research Services team in providing high quality, expert services to the research community at Newcastle University. Against the backdrop of rapid change in the academic publishing landscape, you will specialise in scholarly communications, with a focus on research data management, whilst also promoting the wider remit of Library Research Services in providing guidance and advice to researchers in support of open research more generally. You will work closely with all stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure the service reflects and underpins the University Research Strategy.

This post is suitable for blended working.

Key Accountabilities

To work with colleagues in planning and developing research services in the University with a focus on research data management

Working with relevant colleagues, including those in IT and Research Strategy and Development, to develop, implement and promote best practice in research data management ensuring compliance with University and funder policies

To maintain a strong awareness of the changing landscape in open research and scholarly communications, using this to benchmark, evaluate and enhance services provided at Newcastle

To design and deliver advocacy, training and support activities for academic and professional staff, with a focus on driving engagement with open research data, and the broader scholarly communication agenda

To develop a working knowledge of the University’s research support systems, including data.ncl, NUProjects, MyImpact and the Institutional Repository

To offer a metadata service that ensures data sets are accurately and consistently described, and uniquely identified

To prepare reports in a range of formats relating to research data management, particularly with regard to compliance with funding body requirements

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge of open research practices such as research data management and open access combined with a detailed understanding of the wider research environment

Knowledge of the research lifecycle and how this varies across disciplines

Experience of developing and delivering successful training to researchers and generally promoting good practice

Ability to contribute to institutional polices on open research, research integrity and research culture

Awareness of the components of research system infrastructures including Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) and data repositories

Experience of evaluating data and activities, making recommendations to ensure continuous service improvement

Excellent team working skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective networks both internally and externally.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including sharing information across all appropriate channels

Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload, and to meet deadlines

**Qualifications**:
Educated to honours degree standard or equivalent, or demonstrable relevant experience
