Leeds, United Kingdom Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We have an unusual and exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist to provide psychological therapy to patients admitted to the National Inpatient Centre for Psychological Medicine, and the associated Leeds Liaison Psychiatry Outpatient Service.

The postholder will also work within the Leeds Liaison Psychiatry Outpatient Service. This is well established and one of the largest liaison psychiatry services in the UK. The service works with patients who present with complex persistent physical symptoms and long-term conditions. This service is closely linked with NICPM, and this allows the postholder to continue psychological therapy with some people after they have been discharged from the ward, when indicated.

The National Inpatient Centre for Psychological Medicine (NICPM) provides a service mainly for people with complex persistent physical symptoms (PPS) from across the UK. Patients have planned admissions of several months, and the focus is upon biopsychosocial treatment by a specialist multidisciplinary team. Our outcomes and patient feedback show that the treatment can make very significant differences to our patients’ lives. As an integral part of this team, the postholder will provide specialist cognitive behavioural therapy to our patients in a ward setting. Trauma-focussed therapy is an essential intervention on the unit and the multidisciplinary team actively supports this work with people with complex trauma. There are opportunities to work in innovative ways, and to gain experience in more complex and unusual presentations. Alongside the consultant psychiatrist, the psychotherapists guide and supervise the rest of the team in psychological interventions, so ensuring progress is continued throughout the week.
- The Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist will work as an autonomous clinician providing specialist cognitive behavioural assessments, formulation and treatment to service users experiencing concurrent physical and psychological problems within a ward-based setting, and an outpatient service
- They will provide trauma-focussed therapies (trauma-focussed CBT or EMDR) when clinically indicated

- To lead the psychological aspects of the formulation and treatment of patients within NICPM and the outpatient service, (alongside the Clinical Lead/s), and contribute to the overall biopsychosocial formulation.
- To liaise with the heads of psychological services around the UK, to establish inpatients’ previous therapy and to organise continuation of psychological therapy after discharge from NICPM.
- The post holder will be a member of the Liaison Psychiatry CBT team and is required to work closely with CBT colleagues in providing CBT services to the wider department. This will include regular meetings to plan and develop the delivery of the service including clinical, supervisory, and teaching responsibilities.
