We are a hardworking department with a strong sense of teamwork therefore you must be able to show that you are able to work as part of a team as well as function autonomously.

You will be responsible for the provision of clinical leadership, support, teaching and decision making from the patient's arrival to hospital and throughout their journey in the Emergency Department on a rota covering 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Applicants will need a dynamic, hardworking, and passionate approach to delivering high quality patient care that is an example to the junior staff you will be leading and supporting.

You will need to demonstrate expert knowledge surrounding emergency care and a commitment to provide high quality, safe and effective care for patients requiring emergency nursing intervention.

An experienced and competent health care professional who has continuous responsibility for the leadership and management of the Emergency Department.

The post holder is responsible for achieving clinical excellence in the quality of care provided through the best use of the team, by allocating work appropriately, using resources effectively, developing and implementing policy and guidelines, and by controlling an agreed financial budget.

The post holder will also work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families, and take an active part in contributing to the operational and clinical management of the department and the wider activities and strategic plans of the Trust.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its ‘Be Safe Be EquiPPEd’ campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE. The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.

Lead on improvements in the quality of care and development of the department from the patients perspective, initiating change and improvements according to wider service plans and objectives.

Ensure that plans are in place to encourage patient and public involvement activities in the area leading to service improvements.

Demonstrate effective clinical leadership by prioritising patient care, allocating, supervising and evaluating the work of the department team, including supervising work delegated to junior staff.

Plan, organise and manage the department effectively and efficiently by identifying staffing/skill mix requirements now and in the future, recruiting staff, ensuring local induction, work based learning and education takes place, and by ensure plans are implemented for clinical supervision,

Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources, evaluating information to ensure staff rotas have the right numbers and skill mix of staff, equipment and supplies are available, the agreed financial budget is managed and controlled, and action to address issues is taken and any concerns are reported.

Promote, monitor and maintain a healthy, safe and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation and reporting any concerns.
