Assistant Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 4 assistant practitioner to cover a 12 month fixed term/secondment post within the Community Specialist Bladder and Bowel Service in North Cumbria. We are a small yet perfectly formed nurse led service comprised of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals (both nurses and assistant practitioners) supporting patients with the holistic and person centred assessment, treatment and management of their bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.
You will provide Holistic and Person centred assessment and support for the patient using various methods of gathering evidence and undertaking work activities including bladder scanning, ISC and reviewing of bladder/bowel charts based on the post holder's scope of practice. Whilst having an awareness of your own role and responsibilities you will also have an understanding of the role of other professionals working within the wider professional community and have the ability to signpost patients as required. you will have a sound knowledge of the products and equipment available to support your patient in managing their bladder/bowel dysfunction and be responsible for prescribing continence products when they are deemed the most appropriate to aid management.
You will be expected to identify and raise awareness of the risks involved in work activities and undertake then in a way that manages the risk(s) in relation to own work and risks to patient safety.
Your role would be to support the level 1 work of the team which includes assessment and treatment of bladder and bowel dysfunction for people aged 18 years and above, understanding the range of advice, treatments and products/equipment available to assist our patients in managing their own continence needs and also training others, sharing knowledge and skills to improve how continence is managed within the community by other professionals. Duties will include unsupervised holistic and person centred care for the patient in the clinic setting, over the telephone, within their care provision or in their own home.
