An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic experienced healthcare manager to lead Outpatient Services. The Head of Outpatients will be responsible to the Associate Director for the effective delivery of all centralised outpatient operational functions across the Trust and for effective business management of these services.

The post holder will be responsible for the leadership and direction of all centralised outpatient services across all sites, providing high quality nursing and administrative support for all aspects of the services to ensure the delivery of all relevant activity and performance objectives.

As a senior leader within the organisation, the post holder will have a critical role in supporting services across Care Groups and working collaboratively with managers and clinical leaders to do so. In addition, there will be an expectation to meet agreed plans and priorities within available resources.

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Outpatients Service with the aim of maximising the delivery of patient-focused, modern, effective and efficient clinical services within the Trust and across the wider local health economy.

Sheffield Children’s is one of three stand-alone specialist paediatric hospitals in the country, providing dedicated healthcare for children and young people across community, mental health and acute specialist settings.

Strategic and Service Development
- To contribute to the Trust’s strategy, specifically around driving the Trust’s aim to be at the forefront of outstanding care.
- Lead on Trust-wide service development and conscientious improvement of systems and processes that underpin outpatient services.
- Support the Associate Director in the strategic planning of services identifying resource requirements to ensure that future service needs are met.
- Support the Nurse Manager and Service Managers to act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilisation and integration of evidence; setting, implementing and monitoring evidence-based policies, procedures and protocols.
- Ensure a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of metrics, patient feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the team.
- Lead and encourage redesign of Trust wide outpatient services and embed new ways of working which support patient care aims

Operational and Service Delivery
- To be responsible for the overall delivery of the Outpatients contribution to the Trust’s agreed activity and performance objectives.
- Responsible for ensuring all patient services relating to the Outpatients Department are delivered safely, meeting high clinical standards, and are in line with the Trust policies and procedures.
- To ensure that safe & effective clinical practice is being delivered in the outpatient setting and the patient’s experience is enhanced.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Director, Associate Director, and Clinical Leads ensure that objectives are devised and implemented for each clinical service and sub-specialty within Outpatients.
- Work constantly with other Trust Managers and Clinicians across Care Group/departmental boundaries in order to facilitate effective working between services and robust patient pathways in order to reduce waiting times for appointments and reduce waiting times in departments.
- To undertake regular and systematic review of the processes and systems through which services are delivered, analysing problems and developing solutions to improve patient care.
