**Job purpose**:To produce and maintain healthy plants and to harvest quality crops. Maintain a high standard of personal and site hygiene. Health & Safety Purpose: To take a direct interest in the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your work activities.
**Key responsibilities and accountabilities**:
- To ensure that all practices and procedures carried out on the nursery comply with all legislation
- To follow all hygiene procedures
- To carry out the duties that maximise quality and quantity of the crops
- To carry out all operational tasks safely, accurately and consistently
- To undertake training in the sowings of seeds
- To space crops and that this work is completed accurately to the standards instructed by the management team
- To undertake training to be able to monitor and report any signs of pest, disease and disorders on the crop
- To input basic data into the IFS system
- To weed the crops as required
- To plug up young plants in pots as needed
- To operate machinery safely and accurately and report any equipment and structural faults
- To participate in the movement of benches around the system, from sowing through to packing
- To participate in lean management tools and techniques
- Participate in any communication activities through formal and informal channels on safety matters to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas
- Ensure that the Vitacress safety image is reflected positively through your actions
- Ensure that you have received the necessary training so that you can competently carry out your duties and responsibilities. Acknowledge and accept a personal responsibility for safety
- Take responsibility for reviewing the safe system of work prior to the commencement of the work activity
- Take responsibility for ensuring that plant and equipment is maintained and fit for purpose
- Raise any concerns over Health & Safety breaches in accordance with Company Procedure
- To know and carry out responsibilities in the case of fire and as an individual under the Health and safety at work act
- To maintain the highest level of workmanship, ensuring good plant health and quality
- To be responsible for self-development on a continuous basis, undergoing training as required
- Effectively manage and control waste to a minimum within the production units and to ensure all plastic & cardboard is recycled on site
- Effectively maintain all standards of the production units in line with audit requirements
- Any other tasks that may arise from time to time
**Working conditions**:
- Appropriate PPE required.
- Long periods of standing and/or walking.
- Variable temperatures.
