You might well ask ‘what is a Growing Operative?’. This is a good question, let me explain.
You will be a primary person in maintaining the health of thousands of plants in our expansive glass houses. You will have direct influence over the wellbeing of the product that hits the customer’s plate. That’s a big deal, the quality of flavour of our customer's home cooking is in your hands
You will work closely with the Growing Leaders who will support you closely in your own development. You will begin to learn how the environmental controls impact crop growth and how to maximise crop growth quantity and quality.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- To undertake training in the sowings of seeds
- To space crops and ensure that the work is completed accurately
- To undertake training to be able to monitor and report any signs of pest, disease and disorders on the crop
- To input basic data into the IFS system
- To weed the crops as required
- To plug up young plants in pots as needed

You will receive a salary of up to £23,350 and will be working a Tuesday - Saturday shift pattern between the hours of 07:00am - 15:00pm.

About Us

We are one of Europe's leading suppliers of fresh produce, specialising in watercress, salads and fresh herbs.

Established in Hampshire 1951, we became part of the RAR Group in 2008. We have a proud heritage of market-leading innovation including the introduction of living herbs, and baby leaf salads, and market-defining salad leaves including bagged watercress, rocket and baby spinach. We have a wide range of customers in the UK, both under supermarket own brands and Steve's Leaves, we are branded market-leaders in Portugal and also operate in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. We employ 1500 people across Europe. We're passionate about promoting the use of fresh produce, which is why we have introduced the Herbilicious and Wild for Watercress campaigns, as well as participating in the Make More of Salad campaign run by the British Leafy Salad Association.

We are determined to leave things better than we found them, and as such we have set up the Vitacress Conservation Trust to promote the well being of the unique chalk stream habitats where many of our watercress sites are based.
