Senior Carer Assistant

**Fairfield House Residential Home is looking for an experienced Senior Carer.**
We are seeking compassionate individuals to join our team as Senior Carers. You will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals in need.
The Senior Carer position is crucial in every Health and Social Care setting. You are responsible for ensuring the residents receive high-quality, person-centred care and you are responsible for supporting and assisting all staff members. The Senior Carers work on a monthly rota which covers various shifts over 7 days. The role includes being contactable to offer support and flexibility due to the needs of the business.
Qualifications:
All Senior Carers are expected to hold a Level 3 or work towards their **Level 3**.
They must also be trained in the safe administration of medication.
**Induction & Training Package**:
Full in-house training is to be completed within six months. The Care Certificate is an online course that ensures safety through learning. This will ensure that the residents and the house environment are cared for to meet the highest standards.
**Mandatory training will be provided on the following**:
Safeguarding Adults, Safe Administration of Medication, End of Life Dignity in Care, Fire Prevention, Moving and Handling, Health and Safety, First Aid, Infection Control, Food Hygiene, Autism and other online / in-person courses. This includes NVQ / QCF levels 2 & 3.
**Job Summary**:
The position is a responsible role, as well as being completely in charge of the house whilst on shift; you will be expected to promote a professional approach and attitude to the following:
- Can communicate with others non-offensively and delegate practical work to care staff as appropriate.
- To be involved in organising staff meetings.
- To write residents’ daily reports / Care Control notes and to observe care staff report writing for professionalism and correctness.
- To be involved with the staff Rota of shifts.
- To be responsible for telephone calls and overall written or verbal communication.
- To take full responsibility for the home during a 24-hours on a shift system.
- To be knowledgeable regarding emergency procedures for the residents.
- To respond to the residents' spiritual, emotional, physical and mental needs.
- To liaise with residents, their family members, GPs, DNs, CQC, Service Improvement Team, Dorset Council and other outside agencies / Medical professionals to promote a high standard of care.
- To monitor residents’ hygiene and self-care. Oversee and check the entries on the Care Control System to evidence the administration of all care to residents.
- To be responsible for the safe administration and records of medication.
- To ensure medication has been properly taken and monitor adverse reactions.
- Training and Leadership include regular active listening and effective Communication.
- To be current with recent developments, attend relevant courses and teach other staff in all aspects of relevant care, with hands-on involvement as required.
**The Senior Carer’s responsibilities are as follows**:
- Responsible for managing, monitoring and improving service delivery to ensure all residents receive high-quality, person-centred care during their journey at Fairfield House Residential Home.
- You will lead by example and teach other staff members to utilise their strengths and improve their performance. You will be the primary cover for the safe running of the home. If the home has two or fewer carers on duty, you must step in and implement a solution.
- You must maintain professional standards, provide cover throughout the rotas and reduce agency costs to implement change where necessary.
- Senior Carers are responsible for the creation and maintenance of Care Reviews. This includes evaluating, updating and reviewing monthly (or sooner if needed). Train and support other seniors in completing all care reviews.
- New staff will complete the Care Certificate, their Induction Booklet and training during the first 12 weeks of employment. You and the Senior Management Team are responsible for regularly checking their progress and hosting support sessions/reviews.
- Maintain effective communication with residents, staff, visitors, medical professionals and any other external multi-disciplinary team member. This will ensure the holistic and person-centred care approach is followed to meet all care needs of the individuals. You will support the manager and prioritise the safety of everyone in Fairfield House.
- To support the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Head of Care in maintaining, safe running of the home. This includes leading, attending and implementing the structure of staff meetings.
- Communicate all QCS updates to the staff regularly. This includes reminding staff to access the Policies and Procedures. The Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Head of Care will inform you of the updates and any changes needed.
