**Senior Support Worker
Hours: 36 hours per week

**Salary**: £23,365.24 per annum (pro rata)

Holidays: 25 days per annum, plus bank holidays (pro rata)

Period of Notice: 1 week during probation; 4 weeks thereafter

Probationary Period: 6 months (can be extended if needed)

Based at: Llansamlet, Swansea

Adferiad Overview

Adferiad Recovery delivers a flexible and coordinated response to the exceptional circumstances faced

by people with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions and related issues. Vulnerable

people facing complex life challenges need consistent and seamless support to ensure they remain

engaged with vital health and wellbeing services - and to prevent them becoming disenfranchised and

isolated.

Adferiad Recovery harnesses the talents and experience of long-established and leading Welsh

charities CAIS, Hafal and WCADA. Our combined expertise in the fields of substance use, mental

health, housing, criminal justice, and employment support enables Adferiad Recovery to meet the

needs of our most vulnerable with a single, unified, and comprehensive approach.

Job Purpose:
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a brand-new service providing practical and therapeutic

support to children and young people, across Neath Port Talbot and Swansea, experiencing episodes

of mental distress in a non-clinical setting. The team will provide advice, guidance and early

interventions that aim to keep children and young people accessing the service safe and help to

improve their mental wellbeing.

The Senior Support Worker of the CYP Sanctuary Service plays a pivotal role in providing a safe and

supportive environment for children and young people in need. Reporting to the Service Manager, this

position is responsible for leading and supporting a team of staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality

support, and contributing to the overall success of the service.

The role of the Senior Support Worker is crucial to ensuring that children and young people receive the

appropriate intervention they need during difficult times. This role demands a compassionate and

resilient individual who is capable of providing leadership, guidance, and advocacy to both service

users and the dedicated staff team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide a 24/7, non-clinical-based service to children and young people (up to the age of 18)
- Provide direct support to children and young people experiencing episodes of mental distress.
- To respond and effectively manage all new and current referrals, whilst providing specialist 1:1

support to all children and young people accessing the service; via face-to-face and telephone

contact.
- Provide a safe space for individuals to turn to (and the concerned others, if appropriate)

experiencing social/emotional crisis, mental distress, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and/or

having suicidal thoughts.
- Identify appropriate services and resources based on the individual’s presenting needs and

signpost/make referrals as necessary.
- Encourage and support individuals to access appropriate services and resources as required.
- Develop an individual’s resilience by enabling them to self-manage and find their own solutions

to their crisis in a non-judgemental, empathetic, and respectful way.
