An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Technical Team as a Deputy Genomics Specimen Reception Lead in our busy Genomics Laboratory.

The East Genomic Laboratory Hub is looking to recruit a Band 5 Deputy Genomics Specimen Reception Lead, who will assist the Genomics Reception Lead in managing and overseeing the whole sample receipt and send-out area in the Genomics Lab.

Experience of sample handling and receipt is essential.

Knowledge and understanding of the eHospital system EPIC, the National Genomic Information System (NGIS) for management of Whole Genome Sequencing Testing and other laboratory information systems, is highly desirable.

Experience of training and supervising others and knowledge of genomic testing pathways is also beneficial.

Registration with AHCS or IBMS/HCPC will be encouraged.

Hours are currently within our current opening hours of 8am to 6pm, however the laboratory may soon be open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and at reduced hours at weekends, so flexibility is desirable.

The Laboratory is part of the East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub. This is one of seven Genomic Hubs recently established to provide the new National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England, led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester.

Main duties of the job

Act as the deputy lead for the GLH reception area including managing the staff, equipment and processes within it.

Act as Technical co-ordinator for the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) send out service.

Supports the Lead to manage and coordinate the day-to-day sample management and associated laboratory activities associated with specimen reception.

Processing accurate and timely data into the laboratory information system.
- Assists with service improvement and staff development necessary to address the changing needs of GLH specimen reception.Working for our organisation

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria

Biological Science Degree (BSc) or equivalent
- Data processing /IT qualification or equivalent experienceDesirable criteria

Leadership Qualificationion.

European Computer Driving License
- Professional registration with either the AHCS or HCPC, or nearing completeExperience

Essential criteria

Experience of diagnostic laboratory sample workflows, sample preparation techniques and sample quality assurance.

Experience of using lab information management systems.

Experience of supervising a team.

Experience of Genomic IT systems and software
- Practical experience of Quality Management SystemsDesirable criteria
