The University of Warwick wishes to appoint a Professor or Associate Professor in the Warwick Institute for Employment Research (IER). This post is primarily a research post, though some teaching might be undertaken. You will want to undertake research that makes a difference to policy and practice.
IER is a leading international centre for employment and labour market research. It is a self-funded department within the Faculty of Social Sciences. It delivers high-quality research, externally funded by a range of public and private sector organisations and research councils. This research is intended to contribute to shaping employment and labour market policy and practice. IER’s fields of research include, broadly: labour market assessment and forecasting; labour market classification and measurement; education, training and skills; gender and work; age and work; welfare, public policy and social inclusion; careers guidance and advice; job quality; social science Big Data; the future of work; and employment policy.
You will have a PhD or equivalent relevant research experience. You will have a demonstrable academic background in this field of work, and a substantial record of research and publication. You will be working within or across any of IER’s research fields or any others that are relevant to labour markets and employment.
You will be expected to lead as well as contribute to the work of an interdisciplinary team of researchers from economics, sociology, psychology and geography for example.
At Professorial level, you will be an internationally recognised labour economist or social scientist with strong quantitative and/or qualitative skills. At Associate Professor level, you be recognised at least nationally for this expertise. As a Professor, you will be expected to have proven ability in leading programmes of work. As an Associate Professor, you will be expected to be developing a clear programme of work. In both cases, you will have a strong record of securing external research funding, with research dissemination across the academic, policy and practitioner communities. Preferably, you will have experience of contract research and international collaborative research.

**JOB PURPOSE**
To contribute to the research of one of the UK’s leading research universities by securing external funding for research to support the work of the Institute for Employment Research (IER) and develops and enhances IER’s reputation for research excellence nationally and internationally. As a Professor, to lead programmes of work and publish academic outputs at the highest level. As an Associate Professor, to develop a clear programme of work and publish high quality academic outputs. To work in an environment that explicitly undertakes research to shape policy and practice in its field. Provide academic leadership to those staff working within the post holder’s research area and develop that area. To engage with policymakers and practitioners as well as other researchers nationally and internationally to identify research needs and develop research ideas that break new ground and make a difference to the field.

**Research and scholarship**
1. Develop the research activities of the Institute by leading a research theme or large programme of work.
3. Sustain an extensive track record of publications in internationally leading journals.
4. Carry out independent research and act as principal/co-investigator and project leader.
6. Provide guidance to staff and PhD students in own specialist area.
7. Contribute to the development of the Institute’s research strategies.
8. Supervise post-doctoral research staff, technical and other support staff engaged in research.
9. Disseminate research outcomes through engagement with the scientific, policy and practitioner communities as well as external media.
10. Engage in external academic activities in accordance with the department’s research strategy that enhance the Institute’s national/international research profile e.g. membership of committees of academic bodies, external examining and journal editorships.
11. Represent the Institute and the University nationally and internationally.
**Teaching and Learning Support**
12. Contribute to the teaching and training programmes of the Institute as appropriate.
**Administration and Other Activities**
14. Undertake relevant level Institute administrative tasks as required.
15. Lead and develop internal networks, for example by chairing and participating in University committees.
