**About us**
We are part of an expanding Employability Team sitting within the Learning & Skills Directorate of the Vale of Glamorgan Council. The Supported Employment Mentor is a new and exciting UK Government funded development, and the role will focus on taking the employability support agenda forward.

Sitting as part of the employability team you will work to a senior Supported Employment mentor to manage a caseload of individuals with a Learning disability, Physical and sensory disability, Mental Health or Autism, supporting them to achieve/develop the necessary skills and confidence to secure a volunteering, work placement or paid employment.

The role will need to work closely with various Council departments and local employers to identify suitable placements and work with employers to develop their skills to support the mentees on the project. Sourcing and setting up placements/job opportunities, training and supporting employers to develop the skills required to continue the placement/employment longer term.

**About the role**
Pay Details: Scale 6 SP14 - 19, £25,409 - £27,852

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week

Main Place of Work: Barry

Temporary Reason: 31st March 2025 (following a successful probationary period).

**Description: The role is to assist participants to obtain employment or training and to provide support within a working environment, to people with a learning disability, to help them achieve some of the skills necessary to gain and maintain employment.**

**About you**
You will need:

- Experience of working with individuals with a learning disability, physical and sensory disability, mental-health and autism in a supportive environment
- Experience of working in partnership with a range of organisations and a track record of delivering agreed outcomes
- Experience of providing support and mentoring either in an employment based or similar intensive support service.
- Knowledge of health and safety in relation to keeping individuals safe, individuals they support safe and the general community
- Knowledge of providing information, advice and guidance around reasonable adjustments in the workplace and encouraging inclusive employment across local businesses.
- Ability to work creatively and innovatively to overcome barriers to employment for individuals being supported as part of caseload and by the wider service.
- A flexible and highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, with an ability to work with and build relationships with a wide range of partners.
