West Midlands Combined Authority have commissioned Midland Metro Alliance, a team of planning, design and construction specialists, to build a number of tram extensions on their behalf. The metro sponsor team are part of the TfWM Delivery Directorate but operate within Midland Metro Alliance, bringing forward the extensions across the region to help make a happy, healthy and better-connected West Midlands. This role will give you the opportunity to work on a variety of metro projects which may include the Birmingham Westside, Birmingham Eastside, Wolverhampton City Centre and Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extensions.

We are looking for an Assistant Project Sponsor who will be responsible for supporting project integration and bringing together key partners and stakeholders to deliver the schemes. You will support to ensure that projects are progressed in a collaborative manner that takes into consideration the best interests of the extension, that are in line with scheme objectives and financial targets.

You will need to be able to communicate at all levels as you will engage with a variety of stakeholders, politicians, design and delivery teams and the public. Assisting two Project Sponsors, it will be your responsibility to understand and be aware of stakeholders’ requirements as you will be the supporting “link” between different parties and open lines of communication where required, making sure the correct people are involved in conversations to resolve identified issues and move the projects forward.

With approximately £1.3bn being invested in extending the tram system across the West Midlands, this is an unprecedented light rail infrastructure project to help deliver a lasting legacy that will enable social and economic regeneration across the region.

**What will you be doing?**
- Work with project teams to monitor and challenge projects and ensure they are on track to deliver outputs.
- Prepare reporting for the combined authority and external stakeholders in relation to projects and escalate issues of concern.
- Prepare and support the preparation of reports, briefings, investment cases and other governance materials to support evidence-based decision making
- Support the design and implementation of gateway reviews and other sponsor assurance.
- Ensure adherence to Statutory Body project governance processes.
- Work with project teams, partners, and internal and external stakeholders to define scope of projects.
- Co-ordinate engagement with key project partners and stakeholders
- Champion improvement and the implementation of lessons learned.
- Deliver specific projects in support of sponsorship activity, as required, under the direction of the Programme sponsor.

**About you.**
- Proven experience of problem solving and identifying and responding to project risks and opportunities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of engaging with a range of stakeholders and communicating challenging messages.
- Strong organisational skills, able to deliver high quality outputs in a matrix environment, under time pressure.
- Proven experience of writing, preparing and presenting key project information, position, risks and issues

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
