Summary of Job Purpose:
Overall responsibility and accountability for the safe and profitable delivery and completion of the projects that are allocated to you.
The aim is always that projects should be delivered safely on time, on budget, without defects and to the satisfaction of the Client.
Responsible for the day-to-day management, co-ordination and control of company personnel and resources (including sub-contractors) where engaged on any project allocated to you.
Particular emphasis is to be placed on Health and Safety matters, contract management, programme control, drawing and information management and client relationship in order to meet the on and off-site requirements of the project.
Own and manage the client and/or principal contractor relationships to ensure successful delivery and relationship management.
Develop effective internal and external business relationships with managers and key account executives who have influence over existing and future business opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Competent management and motivation of all team members engaged on your projects.
Attend site during key activities such as meetings or installations, potentially during weekend and overnight possessions.
Establish and maintain a professional and appropriate approach to all aspects of your work and that of your teams.
Maintain high standards of safety and organisation on your projects and maintain good KPI and client feedback ratings.
Ensure that work is programmed in detail to mitigate potential risk and manage critical areas whilst providing performance related commercial opportunity.
Oversee sub-contractors to ensure that they provide sufficient resources to meet the outputs identified in the program, monitoring and recording the outputs to ensure that proper and timely valuations and/or withholding notices are issued.
Establish clear lines of responsibility and accountability for persons engaged on each project and manage the chain of responsibility with appropriate direct reporting.
Maintain the proper and timely completion of all records required under our quality, environmental and safety systems, our production management systems and our procurement and requisition systems.
Work with your project QS to ensure the proper management and submission of contractual notices and approvals as relevant and necessary to each project.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with the client, client's staff and client's professional team to minimise client related and project problems and to promote future opportunities for repeat business.
Set project specific KPI targets and complete as required by the company systems.
Ensure that contract program and progress outlines are maintained regularly and submitted to the relevant parties for each project on a fortnightly basis as a minimum.
Ensure that applications for payment and sub-contractor valuations are issued and agreed by your project QS in accordance with the project schedule. Manage this process, making sure that the returns for each project are optimised.
Work with the project QS to produce accurate monthly contract value assessments which are to be issued by the QS in a timely manner to coincide with the Head of Contracts monthly board reporting requirement.
Take part in marketing and selling exercises and work with the sales team to compile accurate and effective tender submissions, supporting the bid team with technical expertise and programming and build process information.
Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to perform and discharge the requirements of your projects, where necessary organising such meetings in good time to ensure that the contract delivery program is met.
Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills required to fulfil the role.
Build Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the site works required.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
Good understanding of the construction industry and entire project delivery process.
Excellent understanding of steelwork fabrication and the construction of bespoke steel infrastructure.
Experience in managing relationships at all levels of the project delivery process including end clients, main contractors, the design teams and the site teams.
Knowledge and use of commonly used forms of contract including NEC.
Excellent understanding of engineering drawings.
Good computer skills and understanding of mainstream software products such as MS Office.
Good understanding of industry relevant health and safety and quality related matters.
Excellent leadership skills with proven and significant leadership experience.
Ability to accurately and effectively plan and program the project delivery process.
Good commercial and contractual awareness. Sound business acumen.
Polite, helpful and a good team player. Works well with others.
Desirable:
Understanding of Tekla software
Ability to prepare business plans and forecasting documentation.
Experience in working with relevant industry software programs such as MS Project.
Technical knowledge of the products and services generally employed with relevant industry trades - for e.g metal decking, roofing and cladding.
Experience and knowledge of claims handling.
Experience and knowledge of procurement and quantity surveying including experience of negotiating contract variations.
Ability to operate a quality system.
Relevant industry qualifications such as SMSTS and CSCS Card.
Relevant sector qualifications such as PTS & National Highways Passport.
