Reporting to: Estimating Manager / Bid Manager

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience (D.O.E.)

Our client specializes in the design and execution of structural steel and timber-steel hybrid projects. They work closely with key partners and clients to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions in both hybrid and conventional steel superstructures. Leveraging an advanced steel manufacturing facility, they assist clients in reducing costs, accelerating project timelines, and minimizing carbon emissions through state-of-the-art hybrid solutions. The client boasts a strong supply chain and extensive experience with a wide range of engineered products, including structural steelwork, cross-laminated timber, and glulam. Their in-house capabilities, supported by cutting-edge manufacturing processes, ensure efficiency, quality, and reliability for both new and existing partnerships.

About the Role:

We are seeking a 3D CAD Technician/Estimator to join our estimating team. The primary responsibilities include producing accurate structural models for planned construction projects and supporting the preparation of bids and tenders. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience as a 3D CAD Technician, preferably with knowledge of structural steel, and will ensure timely and accurate project modelling. Candidates should be enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn and grow alongside the company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Tender Analysis: Review client enquiry documents to understand the tender requirements and ensure bid submissions meet compliance standards.
Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret structural engineers' and architects' general arrangement drawings, design reports, and specifications.
3D Modelling: Use 3D modelling software such as Tekla Structures to create detailed structural models.
Software Proficiency: Utilize various software tools, including Bluebeam, Trimble Connect, DWG TrueView, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Publisher, Excel), as well as Adobe InDesign.
Bid Documentation: Prepare bid-related documents, including material quantity lists, 3D views, PDF models, and piece counts.
Team Communication: Work closely with the estimating team to address discrepancies, assumptions, or queries.
Supply Chain Engagement: Issue accurate enquiries and obtain competitive sub-contract quotations for tender elements.
Client and Engineer Liaison: Contact clients and engineers as needed to clarify any uncertainties.
Deadline Management: Adhere to project deadlines, ensuring timely completion of models.
Attention to Detail: Ensure all work is completed with a high degree of accuracy.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes:

Experience: Minimum one year in a structural steelwork CAD role.
Technical Proficiency: Strong IT skills and quick adaptation to new systems.
Teamwork: A team player with the confidence to seek assistance and collaborate with peers.
Communication: Professional telephone manner and strong communication skills.
Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize workload and meet client requirements within allocated time frames.
Software Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Professionalism: Friendly, approachable, and able to maintain a professional demeanor.
Career Development: Ambition to progress and learn new construction methods within the company's supply chain.
