They work closely with key partners and clients to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions in both hybrid and conventional steel superstructures. Leveraging an advanced steel manufacturing facility, they assist clients in reducing costs, accelerating project timelines, and minimizing carbon emissions through state-of-the-art hybrid solutions. The client boasts a strong supply chain and extensive experience with a wide range of engineered products, including structural steelwork, cross-laminated timber, and glulam. Their in-house capabilities, supported by cutting-edge manufacturing processes, ensure efficiency, quality, and reliability for both new and existing partnerships.
About the Role
We are seeking an Estimator to join the estimating team and collaborate with CAD technicians in estimating costs for planned structural steelwork projects. The role involves ensuring that projects are accurately budgeted and costed within a specified timeframe to support the development of bids at the tender stage. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as an estimator, particularly with structural steelwork, or possess relevant structural knowledge. We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic individual eager to develop and grow with the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Produce accurate and comprehensive estimates for projects efficiently, managing the estimating process at the project level.
Thoroughly understand client enquiry documentation and bills of quantities to fully grasp tender requirements and ensure compliance in bid submissions.
Possess a strong understanding of structural steelwork materials and the ability to produce precise measurements/take-offs, identifying relevant risks, potential value engineering opportunities, and necessary inclusions and exclusions.
Engage with the supply chain to issue accurate enquiries and secure competitive sub-contract quotations for tender elements.
Maintain a good understanding of current market rates.
Capable of reading and interpreting structural engineers’ and architects’ general arrangement drawings, design reports, and specifications.
Generate accurate and detailed quotation documents using the standard company template for bid qualification.
Utilize an estimating CRM package to update project bid information and maintain client communication/records throughout the project lifecycle until the status is secured or lost.
Attend pre- and post-tender meetings with clients and maintain clear communication throughout all project stages.
Upon successful bid submissions, prepare handover documentation for the contracts department.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes:
At least two years of experience in structural steelwork or relevant structural knowledge.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of InDesign software is preferred.
Ability to work within allocated timeframes to meet client requirements.
Excellent punctuality, proactive approach, and strong communication and presentation skills.
Preferable familiarity with the client base and industry.
Strong planning, time management, and commercial acumen.
Ability to work effectively within a team to achieve targets set by the Pre-Construction Director.
Ambition to advance their career and learn new construction methods within the company’s supply chain.
Full UK driving license.
