Position in the Organisation

The Purchasing Manager reports directly to the Head of Procurement and works closely with colleagues across departments, including engineering and senior management. You will be a vital bridge between our supply chain strategy and operational execution, ensuring that every decision aligns with our business objectives and long-term plans.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Supplier Partnerships:

Source and approve new suppliers that meet the organisations high standards for quality and reliability. You will assess potential partners through rigorous criteria, including financial health and compliance with ISO quality standards.

Strategic Communication: Collaborate with engineering leads to ensure the right suppliers are involved early in the project cycle, setting the stage for success from day one.

Drive Cost Efficiency: Work alongside engineering and cost estimation teams to set and achieve cost targets. Your analytical approach will leverage data to drive down costs while maintaining quality.

Budget Ownership: Take charge of the annual purchasing budget for your area, ensuring every dollar is well spent to support our growth.

Performance Management: Set clear objectives for supplier performance reviews focusing on quality, delivery, cost, and risk (QDCR). You'll prioritize suppliers for review and ensure we have the right resources to support these initiatives.

Capacity Planning: Ensure the supply chain has the capacity to meet the growth plan. Your foresight will help them stay ahead of the curve.

Resolve Escalations: Manage any supply chain escalations with a focus on root cause analysis and continuity of supply. Your problem-solving skills will keep the operations running smoothly.

Team Development: Lead and develop your team, conducting appraisals, setting clear performance goals, and providing growth opportunities.

Data-Driven Decisions: Utilise the Supplier Dashboard to make informed decisions on supplier selection and improvement, ensuring it is always up-to-date and accurate.

Policy Compliance: Ensure all Purchasing & Supply Chain Policies and Procedures are strictly followed, maintaining the highest standards of compliance and operational excellence.

Technical Expertise:Leverage your knowledge to drive cost savings and ensure the highest quality in every aspect of purchasing and supply chain management.

Reliability & Accountability: Demonstrate dependability in meeting goals and maintaining adequate stock levels and lead times on materials.

Interpersonal Skills: Build and nurture strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring a smooth and efficient supply chain.

Proactive Leadership: Show a willingness to innovate, streamline processes, and adapt to new challenges, always looking for ways to improve and grow.

Requirements for the Position

Experience in purchasing within a manufacturing environment.

Strong commercial acumen with a strategic mindset.

CIPS qualified or part-qualified and willing to continue studies.

Understanding of engineering or design principles.

Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Superior organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Proficiency with computer skills, especially within the Google Suite, is an advantage.
