Digital Health and Care Wales are looking for a Cyber Security Apprentice to join their Operations team in Cardiff.
This is a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive, firsthand experience in the world of Cyber Security within the NHS in Wales. This is an exceptional development opportunity for an ambitious individual eager to learn and has a genuine interest in Cyber Security.
You will be a team player with drive, passion and enthusiasm, and will be working with the team to protect the national digital infrastructure and services from cyber threats. You will have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies and tools, such as the Security Information & Event Monitoring (SIEM) service and the Vulnerability Management System (VMS), to monitor, detect and respond to incidents and vulnerabilities across the NHS Wales network.
You will also provide security assurance for national applications, services and firewall requests, ensuring compliance with best practices and standards. Start your cyber career by having a direct impact on protecting the NHS in Wales and its systems and data.
About the Apprenticeship:
This is primarily an administrative Cyber Security role although you will be supported to complete a degree apprenticeship alongside your role and, we will ensure that you can gain the experience needed to complete your qualification. You will be studying the BSc Computer Networks and Cyber Security degree at the University of Wales Trinity St David’s.
Please note this is a fixed-term apprenticeship role for 4 years but there may be the potential to move into a full-time role following the completion of the programme.

Job description
Reporting to a Senior Cyber Security Analyst, you will learn and work alongside experienced cyber professionals to identify and mitigate potential security risks, analyse security threats, and develop solutions to protect our systems and data.
Within this time, you will undertake a digital degree that offers the opportunity to work across the different functions within the cyber security team for four years, gaining a Degree qualification.
As our Cyber Security apprentice, you’ll work within our Cyber Security Team over the term of the apprenticeship, being the first point of contact for service users and provide an efficient and high standard of support to the Cyber Security function. Key responsibilities include:
* Assisting the Cyber Security Operational team with the provision of a comprehensive operational security service and monitoring and maintaining Cyber Security systems as requested, and to provide a proactive approach to supporting the Cyber Security team
* To support the Cyber Security Team with administrative support as and when required throughout course of the day.
* Provide help and demonstrate day-to-day duties to new members of staff ensuring information relevant to the job are shared on to the operational team.
* Work with colleagues in a collaborative way (included hosted organisations) to optimise use of resources and improve documentation and the performance of the department.
* Provide Cyber Security administrative cover and support across DHCW sites when required.
* To utilise SFSP and other database systems to create and run reports to respond to organisational requests and need.
* To take minutes at Cyber Security team meetings
We are looking for an Apprentice who:
* Is enthusiastic and willing to learn
* Is a strong communicator when speaking and writing with internal and external customers
* Is well organised – to manage a variety of tasks and your own workload, so that everything is completed accurately and on time;
* Can adapt to a variety of tasks and a dynamic way of working;
* Works well independently and as part of a team – being comfortable following instructions, showing initiative and supporting colleagues;
Essential criteria;
* At least 5 GCSE’s with a minimum of C grades including English and Maths
* Level 3 qualification or similar experience
* Experience of Word, Excel and a good knowledge of information systems
