Permanent and Fixed Term Contract Opportunity (37.5 hours/week across seven days)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the physiotherapy service at St George's Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital to employ a Band 6 physiotherapist as part of the neurosciences team.

This post will work within the Neurosciences rotation scheme which covers the following areas:Neurosurgery, Neuro-Outreach, Acute Stroke (HASU and ASU), Acute Neurology, Neuro-outpatients,Neuro-rehabilitation and the Community Neuro Therapy Team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the neurosciences team providing a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to people with neurological conditionswithin St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In addition, the successful candidate will need to be able to participate in the supervision and teaching of physiotherapists, assistant staff,and physiotherapy students and to participate in the on-call and weekend rota.

It is essential that you have a minimum of 18 months post-registration experience, which must include at least 1 year's NHS experience (which may have been as an undergraduate).

There is a well-established in-service education programme and attendance at relevant postgraduate training is negotiable.

Qualifications and Training
Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • HPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD, in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio, including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field

Desirable

  • Working towards MSc
  • Special interest group membership

Experience
Essential

  • Minimum 18 months to 2 years post registration experience
  • Minimum of 1 year's NHS experience (can include undergraduate experience).
  • Broad range of experience at junior level including ICU, medical, surgery, neurology, outpatients and elderly care
  • Participation in on-call and weekend rota
  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to form a sound prognosis and advise other members of the MDT

Desirable

  • Previous experience at Band 6 level
  • Student supervision / clinical education
  • Experience of the research process
  • Teaching experience in in-service programs
  • 18 months to 2 years of basic grade rotations in an NHS setting
  • Committee membership, e.g. health and safety

Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Remains updated with professional practice and new research
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • Good assessment skills based on a sound clinical reasoning approach including the assessment of symptom behaviour, history taking and gathering of physical/objective testing and hypothesis formation
  • Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner

  • Willingness to participate in staff training
  • Ability to work with multi/interdisciplinary team and set team goals
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and the implications for physiotherapy services including experience of quality issues and audit
  • Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the differing needs of the patients
  • Ability to keep legible and accurate notes in English in the POMR system
  • Show evidence of being self-motivated
