The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital, NNUH, is seeking for Locum consultant in General Paediatrics with special interest in renal medicine, this is to fill a gap which has arisen because of the current colleague going on sabbatical leave for one year.

The successful appointee will help in running the existing service and work closely with Nottingham Renal team to support local renal patients. The post comprises of 10PA of which 1.5 is SPA and 8.5PAs for clinical work.

Applicants who have completed their Paediatric training can apply having some experience in renal medicine is desirable however this is not necessary. The tertiary nephrology team will provide appropriate support to the appointee who wishes to expand subspecialty experience.

This post will have acute general paediatric on call commitments and general paediatric clinics.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient care for patients with renal disorders. The appointee will be the link Paediatrician for the EMEESY Childrens Kidney Network and have regular contact with Nottingham Nephrology team.

To provide consistent and high quality acute and outpatient services for children.To support the ongoing development and maintenance of paediatric medicine with commitments to emergency and elective workload.To maintain good working relationships with colleagues including general paediatricians, general paediatric surgeons, paediatric anaesthetists, and paediatric orthopaedic surgeons.To provide clinical guidance as part of the multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

To have a commitment to his/her own continuing professional development. To participate in the RCPCH CPD scheme and maintain good standing with the college.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: o CCT in General paediatrics
  • MRCPCH or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher degree such as MD, MSc or PhD.

Experience
Essential

  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required.
  • EPLS or APLS certification
  • Training to level 3 safeguarding and experience of safeguarding at Specialist Registrar or Consultant level.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable knowledge and commitment to a career in paediatrics
  • Some experience in paediatric renal medicine

Aptitudes
Essential

  • Good communicator.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.

Teaching
Essential

  • Experience of formal and on-the-job clinical teaching
  • Enthusiasm to teach clinical skills

Desirable

  • Commitment to under/postgraduate and multidisciplinary teaching & training
  • Recognised postgraduate course in teaching/training (T5 or similar)
  • Postgraduate qualification in teaching (PGCert or similar)

  • Flexible outlook on working hours
  • Must live within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust, or 30 minutes travelling time when on call (if part of a gastro service on-call)
