How you'll make a difference

In this role you support the improvement of public transport infrastructure and Highway Authority functions within South Gloucestershire, working closely with key service managers within the Council as well as the West of England Combined Authority and Transport Operators.

This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only.

What will you be doing

  • Liaising with SGC Highway Authority officers and WECA Transport Officers, you will ensure that road closures and diversions are managed in a timely and effective manner.
  • You will organise the day-to-day maintenance and inspection of bus infrastructure, shelters and stops and also cyclic cleansing.
  • In the role you will organise repairs and other works to infrastructure, including the specification and procurement of the appropriate components and services and also assist with the delivery of s106 funded infrastructure improvements.
  • On a daily basis you will manage bus Real Time Information panels at bus stops, organising maintenance and liaising with WECA Transport Officer regarding information requirements.
  • You will be dealing with issues, concerns and complaints from public transport users where they relate to Council infrastructure issues.
  • Providing technical information and analysis for transport initiatives, you will compile information and assist in the preparation of reports.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you have experience in a transport or highway related service.
  • You will hold or working towards a relevant technical qualification e.g. CILT Membership, or have significant relevant experience .
  • We require you to have a working knowledge and experience of the application of Highways and Transport legislation.
  • To be successful in the role you will have good interpersonal skills to communicate with a range of internal & external stakeholders across organisations and your staff team colleagues.
  • You will have good literary skills, and excellent verbal and written communication, able to understand technical information and produce and maintain clear and accurate records and reports.
  • You must be able to work flexibly, cope with competing demands through good time management and be self-motivated to plan and prioritise work under pressure.
  • It is essential that you can use a wide range of IT systems, MS Office products, Word and Excel
