Job Title: Operations Supervisor

Contract type: Permanent

Appointments are made at the start of the salary scale, £29,992 pro rata, with annual pay progression within the salary scale based on satisfactory performance. In addition, the salary scale is reviewed annually in the light of cost of living and operational budgets.

Reports to: Operations Manager

Responsible for: Front of House staff, Cleaners

Place of Work: South London Gallery, 65-67 Peckham Road, London, SE5 8UH

Hours of Work: Sunday: 9.30am – 6.30pm; Monday – Wednesday 10:30am – 6:30pm
Plus 3 additional hours for exhibition openings 3 times per year.
Shifts include a one-hour unpaid lunch break.

Purpose of the Role:

The Operations Supervisor works closely with the Operations Manager and Gallery Technician to ensure the smooth running of the SLG’s buildings and visitor services. This includes the maintenance and upkeep of the SLG’s buildings and gardens, day-to-day upkeep and condition reporting for exhibitions, supporting the set up and smooth running of events taking place onsite in dialogue with colleagues in the Education and Programme teams, and supervising the Front of House team to ensure a high quality of visitor experience is delivered.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on role, requiring excellent problem-solving skills. The post-holder will be proactive and able to work confidently, independently and effectively with a wide range of people including the SLG’s front of house staff, the wider team across all departments, external contractors and technicians, and gallery visitors

The post holder will be an appointed First Aider and a Fire Warden. As one of the gallery’s key holders, the Operations Supervisor may be called upon for ‘out of hours’ emergencies. Appropriate training will be given.

The Operations Supervisor is one of two part-time roles, with tasks and responsibilities shared to cover seven days a week between them.
