Subsea7 are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team on a staff basis in our Sutton, London or Suresnes, Paris office.

The role of  Senior Legal Counsel presents an excellent opportunity to join a Company whose offshore operations span five decades earning a trusted reputation in the energy industry.

Applications are invited from Commercial lawyers with demonstrable experience in the Energy sector, including offshore/EPCI contract negotiation skills.

What is the role?

Reporting into the Legal Director for Africa, Mediterranean & Middle East the successful candidate will provide commercially astute legal advice to the Africa, Mediterranean & Middle East with a high degree of autonomy. Principally supporting tendering activities on a day to day basis, duties will include assessment of risk, contract review/negotiation, legal advice and support to various departments on a range of topics.

What will your responsibilities involve?

  • Be responsible for a given group of clients on an autonomous basis.
  • Actively work with tender managers to develop effective contractual/negotiation strategies for each tender and type of work.
  • Review and qualify contract terms contained within prospective clients’ invitations to tender (in partnership with the relevant tender manager) and lead client negotiations.
  • Work in partnership with tender managers to develop and make recommendations to senior management and seek appropriate approvals as necessary.
  • As a senior member of the Legal Team, contribute to the development and delivery of the team’s strategy and objectives, including the training and development of junior team members.
  • Providing guidance to contracts department, supply chain and project personnel on contractual wording/risk mitigation and advising on contractual interpretation.
  • Draft and review general legal agreements including confidentiality agreements, mutual hold harmless agreements, parent company guarantees, memorandum of understanding, pre-bid agreements, co-operation agreements.
  • Support various internal service providers, including delivering training to other departments.

What are we looking for?

  • Fully qualified Commercial lawyer (UK qualifications preferred).
  • Relevant in-house experience of the Energy sector (preferably Subsea) desirable.
  • Significant experience of reviewing, negotiating and advising on offshore industry contracts.
  • Adaptability to understand and advice on both conventional and renewable sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, builds strong collaborative relationships.
  • Strong ability to place contractual risks in their true practical and commercial perspective.
  • Demonstrates credibility and professionalism, operates with the highest standards of integrity, preserving confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ownership to work autonomously, while able to work collaboratively with team members and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning skills, accustomed to meeting multiple and competing deadlines.
