Encyclis Limited (formally known globally as Covanta), is a leader in the energy from waste industry and we are looking for talented Operations leader to join us.

We generate sustainable energy for homes and businesses in the UK and Ireland from non-recyclable waste. All of our plants are state of the art and ensure that safety is at the heart of what we do. You will be joining a team of highly skilled, diverse individuals and a business that applauds their successes, enjoys idea sharing and values its people.

This senior role will report to the MD Operations and will be pivotal in growing and shaping our business in an expanding and exciting business sector.

Encyclis currently has an operating fleet of Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) in Dublin, Bedfordshire and Leicestershire with another under construction in Ellesmere Port. The latter is also in the Hynet Carbon Capture Cluster and could be the first ERF to realise carbon capture in the UK. Further to this we have a pipeline of other sites in development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Managing Director, Operations, the Operations Director will take the lead in establishing region’s standards and governance aligned with the ISO certified integrated management systems.
  • Responsible for the day to day operating of the fleet with accountability for safety, environmental compliance, operational excellence, and financial P&L.
  • Demonstrate clear evidence of leadership within the business which enhances the quality of management across each ERF
  • Develop strategies for the growth of the Encyclis European O&M Region. Specifically
  • Implementation of the plan to establish Encyclis Operational Excellence based on the Encyclis Full Potential Plan.
  • Integrate on a regular basis with the Head of H&S and Compliance, and the Regional Operations Team in a collaborative and aligned manner to ensure consistency across the fleet.
  • Integrate fully with all stakeholders including but not limited to, Executive Leadership Team, Owners, General Managers and Advisors.
  • Review, approve and implement policies and procedures, as approved by Encyclis UK, across the UK and Ireland O&M business.
  • Provide monthly updates in the form of business KPIs
  • Work with the business on our long-term maintenance strategy
  • Support the mobilisation, commissioning and operational phases of each new build ERF.
  • Expected to champion Encyclis’ cultural values and safety culture at all times.

Education and Experience

  • A Technical Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate UK and Ireland is required.
  • Exceptional candidates without the above educational requirements, will also be considered.
  • Previous experience of Mobilisation & Commissioning an advantage
  • This is a senior level appointment and will require someone who can demonstrate similar experience in plant operations including at least five years of senior management experience in the power generation, biomass plant, CHP plant, ERF or related industry.
  • General knowledge and experience in industrial safety is required.
  • Experience writing and coordinating standard operating procedures, emergency procedures and safety procedures, is required.
  • Experience analysing monthly and quarterly production reports.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Proven track record managing relations with third parties such as Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Environmental Agency (EA), Insurance inspectors and external auditors
  • Working knowledge of Safe System of Work e.g. Safety Rules
