This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join us in continuingto strengthen our people services function whilst allowing the successfulcandidate to make the role their own.

The People Advisor will reportinto the People Business Partners and will be responsible for providingexcellent generalist people advice to their designated business areas, whilstworking on business-wide projects and initiatives.

Main duties of the job

The people advisor willhave the following key responsibilities (full role & duties can be found inthe job description):

  • Be the first point ofcontact for all manager and employee queries/issues, such as employee relations and sickness absence.
  • Support service restructures and TUPE processes.
  • Attend regular management meetings, providing accurate and timely data to informpeople processes.
  • Support the recruitmentteam with recruitment processes as required, including attending interviews.
  • Supervise the work of thepeople administrators, including being the first point of escalationfor work-related issues.
  • Support the people businesspartners in conducting monthly KPI reporting.
  • Actively involved in introducing, reviewing, and/or carrying out employeeengagement/well-being projects and initiatives.
  • Act asthe super user for iTrent, developing system structures, etc. where required and providing support to the people administrators incompleting payroll changes/updates to the system.
  • Support in updating, and introducing, policies& procedures in line with employment legislation.
  • Support the creation anddelivery of training to be provided as required in line with organisationalneed.

It is essential for thesuccessful candidate to be CIPD qualified, and to possess a good standard ofwritten and oral communication skills, including GCSE English qualifications.Its also required that applicants will have a driving license to supporttravel to various sites.

Job responsibilities

The people advisor is responsible for providing highquality people services support to both employees and line managers withintheir designated service areas. The post holder will be required work flexibly,including travel to other sites when required, and collaborate with othercolleagues in the people services team, including proactively identifying areasfor service improvement.

Keyduties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide excellent advice and guidance to employees and line managers on day-to-day HR issues in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Be the first point ofcontact for all employee relations issues, including disciplinary, grievance andperformance. This will include advising on the process, attending and takingnotes at meetings and ensuring that consistent outcomes are given at all meetingswhere possible.
  • Supportmanagers to effectively manage sickness absence cases by advising andsupporting in accordance with absence management policies and the Equality Act,liaising as appropriate with Occupational Health and attending meetings asrequired.
  • Supportingservice restructures and TUPE processes, including managing consultation processes,changing terms and conditions, and redundancy, in accordance with policy andemployment legislation.
  • Responding to high volume queriesand case management, responsible for personal time management and allocation oftime correctly.
  • Attending regular managementmeetings, providing accurate and timely HR data to inform people processes.
  • Conduct exit interviews andwith the people business partners, use collected data to inform retentioninitiatives and strategies involving the wider HR team.
  • Support the recruitment teamwith recruitment processes as required, including attending interviews.
  • Ensure maternity, paternityand adoption cases are managed effectively, employees are informed of theirentitlements. Work with the administrators to ensure payroll are informed.
  • Liaise with the people administratorsto ensure sickness absence cases are captured and managed in line with Companypolicy.
  • Supervise the work of the peopleadministrators, including being the first point of escalation for work-relatedissues.
  • Assist and input into the work ofthe people services team as a whole, including ensuring people records aremaintained, and appropriate systems are developed in order to provide a range ofregular management reports.
  • Support the people businesspartners in conducting monthly KPI reporting and providing accurate data to thebusiness.
  • Beresponsible for centralised recording and reporting on employee data, such asCovid-19 absences, Covid-19 and flu vaccination records, etc.
  • Takingan active part in introducing, reviewing, and/or carrying out employee engagement/wellbeingprojects and initiatives.
  • Act asthe super user for iTrent, developing system structures, etc. where required.This includes providing support to the people administrators in completingpayroll changes and updates to the system.
  • Support the head of people servicesand people business partners in updating, and introducing, HR policies &procedures in line with employment legislation.
  • Supporting the creation anddelivery of training to be provided as required in line with organisationalneed.
  • Support and assist the headof people services and wider business colleagues with a range of projects andinitiatives as required.
  • Keepabreast of developments in employment legislation and case law.
  • Promote Equality and Diversityas part of the culture of the organisation.
  • Support GDPR complianceby ensuring employee data is processed in line with regulations, and disposedof accordingly.
  • Undertakeany other reasonable tasks as directed from time to time by the head of people services.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 c grade GCSEs including Maths and English or equivalent.
  • CIPD qualification or similar
  • Driving licence
Skills and attributes
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise a demanding workload and conflicting deadlines, remaining efficient under pressure and flexible to unexpected demands.
  • Understanding of Employment Law principles and how to consider and apply these in HR practices.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Experience
  • Working with HR systems i.e. iTrent.
  • Confident advising on HR policies and processes.
  • Management of employee relations cases from start to finish.
  • Managing difficult conversations and conflict resolution.
  • Understanding of payroll processes and timeframes.
  • Understanding of employee contracts and requirements.
  • Supporting organisational change processes such a TUPE, restructure and redundancy.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience of generating reports for use by senior management teams.
