We are on the lookout for an experienced and passionate Senior Design Engineer to come and be a leading member of our Engineering team here in Kendal, Cumbria.

Key Information

Job title: Senior Design Engineer

Hours: 37.5 per week

Location: Furman House, Shap Road, Kendal, LA9 6RU

About the role

The principle responsibilities of this role include:

  • Producing timely, safe, effective and economic design solutions in response to requests from operating divisions and external customers. Design solutions will be required for both relatively routine problems and those, for which we have no previous experience to rely on, in which case the solution will be based on the Engineer’s extensive experience of good engineering practice and innovative design skills.
  • Lead design teams in delivering engineered solutions. Design teams may consist of TEAM and contract staff
  • Acting as technical and cultural mentor to less senior staff
  • Representing Engineering at commercial / project meetings and actively contribute to the project team through verifying design compliance against tender scopes and ensuring that the basis for TEAM’s tender is appropriate.
  • Representing TEAM at client meetings and proactively lead technical conversation with full awareness of commercial matters.
  • Actively working to achieving multi-skilling across the full suite of TEAM’s products & services.
  • Producing detailed manufacturing drawings to implement design solutions to all relevant engineering and quality standards.
  • Liaising with Manufacturing during production, ensuring any required modifications are technically acceptable and properly controlled within the quality system. 9.
  • Liaising with external customers and operating divisions to optimise the design solution and ensure all requirements are met.
  • Visiting customer sites (including offshore and overseas) to carryout surveys, attend progress meetings etc. 1
  • Maintaining drawings and other engineering documents in accordance with departmental procedures and quality standards.
  • Actively promoting our Core Values within all work based activities.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong experience of good design practice, eg. Geometric tolerancing, selecting Limits and Fits, designing for fabrication, designing for manufacture and designing for assembly.
  • Chartered Engineer or evidence of working towards professional recognition.
  • Minimum BEng or BSc or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of relevant sections of the pressure vessel codes ASME VIII and ASME B31.x is preferred.
  • Knowledge of design by analysis to ASME VIII or similar pressure vessel standard is preferred.
  • Mathematical and mechanical science skills to degree level coupled with significant applied industrial experience.
  • Very high level of competence with SolidWorks or comparable 3d CAD package.
  • High level of competence with Ansys FEA.
  • A working knowledge of workshop fitting and assembly processes.
  • A working knowledge of machining and related manufacturing processes

Working Conditions/Systems and Equipment Used

  • Mainly office based. Some travel to client sites onshore, offshore & overseas
  • Laptop
  • Design equipment (Ansys Finite Element Analysis Package, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MathCAD, MS Office, etc.)
  • Contact with TEAM management and field staff at all levels.
  • Contact by phone and site visits to customers – discussing problems and potential solutions.
  • Reasonable out of hours support for owned projects when available via mobile phone and e-mail.
